The Swallowtail Lighthouse is a Canadian lighthouse located on Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy. It was the first lighthouse to be built on the island. It was first lit on 7 July 1860 and was automated and de-staffed in 1986.

A lot of community pride and hard work go into maintaining this beautiful lighthouse. One of the first things you see when you arrive on the Ferry to Grand Manan Island. On a sunny day you can see for miles and might even catch sight of a whale or two. We were fortunate enough to get a tour from the lighthouse keeper himself. There is nothing better than learning about the history of the building from such a friendly and knowledgeable man. We learned many things about the island itself and experienced the East Coast hospitality we have all known to love. Short hike to the lighthouse with breathtaking views. Well-maintained area with many different observation points. Many birds singing half way through in the fir trees even mid October. Places to sit, enjoy the view and have a picnic. More great views from helicopter landing pad nearby.
2024 update: In August - September 2023 164 year old lighthouse has undergone extensive restoration with construction materials being flown in on Canadian Coastguard helicopter. Reconstruction cost ~500 000 $
