This is an amazing place , and there is not a better way to see this beautiful fjord. There are some great views during the 3 km walk to the dock / lake. One a nice day it would probably be worth the hike just for the views however don't expect to really be able to get up close without booking a boat tour ( or arranging a multi day backpacking trip ).

The Fjord itself is majestic , we went on the last tour of the day and sun was low providing some great lighting ( but of course some shadows ). The line forms unpredictably and seating on the upper deck of the boat seems generally preferable. The lowerdeck , at the front of the boat is a great spot , people will tend to claim those spots very early and may not move to allow anyone else to enjoy it. There are not seats at the front of the boat , but you can stand comfortably and lean against the rail. Our guide was fun , and informative , but we learned more from chatting with staff than from the individual with the microphone on our tour.

The hike from the parking area to the boat launch as of Aug 2019 was an easy walk , a few modest slopes, all of it a wide road like path , very solid with a small rock finish. We went on a warm sunny day and there is no shade so it was quite a hot hike. We stopped for photos a few times and spent 45 minutes to walk it. This hike / walk was made clear on BonTours website.

What we were disappointed in was the conflicting information on the BonTours website itself. I understand some things are new , like their 'new' location in Rocky Harbour, etc. But some places on the website still indicated to somewhere else. Also on their website some places say NO CREDIT OR DEBIT at the launch site , while other places say it is intermittent.

Overall , we watched the weather, booked on the nicest day we were in Gros Morne and had an amazing day. One of our top 2 things we did during our 14 days on Newfoundland.

Thank...

We did the Western Brook Pond Tour in mid-June and scheduled it months in advance as it does sell out quite early and it is rare to be able to get a spot upon walking in.

June can be very chilly in NL (there may even be snow), but we got lucky with a very warm and sunny day. Regardless of the weather anywhere else in the area or even in July/August, you should definitely bring layers and include a waterproof outer one as it gets very windy, chilly, and often wet especially if you are outside on the lower level! It does get warmer and more sheltered once you get further into the fjord, but then the way back out gets really cold and windy again too. Anyone who wore shorts or didn't bring a jacket was very cold.

The view is very worth the trip, as it's absolutely stunning. There are some amazing geological formations out there, and because it was June the waterfalls were flowing.

You need to bring cash as the cell/internet services are very unreliable and often absent out there, so it is not uncommon for them to not be able to process debit/credit. I would also recommend bringing your own food and snacks - there are food options at the dock but it can be slow with the rush of clients. There are indoor bathrooms there as well.

The walk from the parking area to the boat is about 3 km long and you should definitely give yourself enough time to find a parking spot, do the walk, use the bathroom if you want to,...

It was a long way to travel, and a bit out of our way, but boy are we glad we booked this! Right around $80 per adult All In, we consider this the best money we spent on our adventure to Newfoundland. You could not be anything but blown away by the glacier torn Rock cliffs that protrude out of the fjord. Wild animals spotted on both sides and waterfalls cascading down rock faces creating rainbows it was amazing. A pair of entertaining tour guide and narrators lead you step by step through the fjord, pointing out rock formations on each side as we pass. The day we went they said it was the best weather in 5 years, and I do not disagree it was amazing! T-shirt and shorts in September! At the climax of our journey before we docked we had a few local Newfoundland tunes played live music on the upper deck and everybody joined and dancing and clapping it was great 👍! I highly recommend this tour if you are in or around Gross Morne National Park in Newfoundland, contact Bontours at 1-709-458-2016 or Toll Free 1888-458-2016 ASAP AS THEY BOOKED UP VERY QUICKLY! Or Online at bontours.ca . And for The FULL MEAL DEAL, get yourself Tickets 🎟️ to "Anchors ⚓ Aweigh " the funniest and finest musical experience in Gros Morne, bar none, me son! Book early as they Sell out months in advance! Hope you can get a chance to experience this first hand as it's likely the best of the East Coast Scenery and...

This was hands down my favorite site visited in the Northern Peninsula from a natural, ethereal beauty perspective. It was completely unexpected since the big objective in dragging my wife and daughter to Newfoundland was to scratch a visit to the archaeological site of L'Anse aux Meadows. It is wonderful that more Americans like myself have yet to be aware of Gros Morne given how ridiculously crowded our major national parks are. We enjoyed the hike in and I, for one, am a fan of there being no publicly accessible to the tour boat site. You should have to work to get there and the beauty of the place is your reward. Given just how ethereal the fjord looked during the overcast and drizzly day I don't believe I would want to go back on a sunny clear day. It truly looked like the setting for something out of a sweeping fantasy film like Lord of the Rings. The dozen or more waterfalls pouring from the top of the plateau and down into the valley were enthralling, as were the many clefts, caves, rock slides and patches of dense woodlands. I fantasized immediately about being dropped off at the far eastern end of the fjord on the floating dock so that I could make the 38-mile backpacking trip out of the valley on foot.
