There's an oval track through the dog parks (there are two: for big and for small dogs.) So when people come in they walk in circles. Around and around. Their dogs walk with them, so there's not a lot of playing amongst the dogs unless you want to chase the other owners around the track. There are a lot of rules and no night lights, so attendance during winter evenings is sparse. I think it's supposed to close at 8 or something anyhow. (How do you close a park?) I haven't found the people very friendly either. I always leave there disappointed and missing the dog parks in Toronto.
My dislike of this park has grown. It's that track that everyone walks around on. I walk my dog in my neighborhood for exercise. I go to the dog park so my dog can socialize with other dogs. It's important that owners watch their dogs, which they aren't doing as their eyes are looking where they're walking. I've had another dog start a scrap with my dog and I had to take care of both animals. The owners were half way across the park.
Dog owners are also missing a great opportunity to meet one another and talk dogs. In Toronto many friendships were formed while we stood and talked with our eyes watching the dogs play together.
Niagara Falls doesn't know how to Dog Park at all. I know the public was consulted when planning this park and the new south one, which might open in 2022 at this rate, but did they consult experience at other dog parks? The park is supposed to be for dogs, yet it seems more geared to people....
Read moreGreat dog park! My mini Labradoodle and I have been going since he was a puppy. Every now and then there's some "dog park drama/gossip". Just be kind to one another, be attentive to your dog, clean up after your dog and only take large sized dogs to the small side if they are used to small dogs and are in no way aggressive! If they're a little obsessive and aggressive over other dogs .. take it slow for training. Pull your dog out of any dog aggressive behaviour and leave the park if it is changing the mood of the park. That's just plain smart human/dog sense!
Other than some minimal dog drama Ive met some good life long friends at this particular park!
I'd suggest to start early when they're a puppy and just research before you take your dog! I've learnt a lot over the years of going.
Don't take you're dog before making sure they're up to date with their shots! All dogs immune systems are different at different ages... Just be smart !!
Ok. I'm...
Read moreThis park is great with awesome trails but; On our second visit(June 4th 2022) to this park, our little dog was covered with very big ticks, we were in terrible panic as the ticks cause Lyme disease and my wife being pregnant we were traumatized that day. We had to strip clothes off our bodies. The ticks were huge and a lot like a lot all over the dog, since 4th June 2022 the day when this happened our dog has not been the same but slowly getting better after treatment. I wonder what can be done to remove the ticks from the park. If no ticks in that park, it would be my favourite in the...
