My daughter and I went here for wine tasting on a late afternoon in mid-May. She had made two such reservations for us, and I just tagged along. The timing here seemed good, we weren't early, and there were others already ahead of us tasting and laughing along. I was eager to do it like them, but on my own show. Our host Andrew was very attentive, telling us the history of that place, which I forgot as soon as I heard the next bit. Talking to us, he served us all kinds of red, white, and sparkling house wines to taste, including an ice wine, vintages from 2016 on. Their Cabernet Sauvignion/Franc were very good. So were their sparkling Reisling, ice wine, etc. We went thru a good list, tasting a dozen or so wines, I lost count after a while, and then on everything tasted good. Andrew was generous, poring constantly and changing glasses while talking to us like old friends. Initially I was following the rules: tasting the wine a bit initially and then circling the glass lazily for a while like a pro, but soon after I ended up swallowing the rest of it before moving on to try out the next sample, a big mistake. This is something no one should do, but a technique I learned from my youngest uncle that I couldn't pass. By the end of the show, I could hardly walk straight since my tolerance level is extremely low, sigh. I longed for some cheese then, rather desperately. In that state, I bought a few wines for home. I noticed that the prices were higher compared to the CA wines. Andrew gave us an explanation as to why, something to do w their local tax setup, but I can't remember all the details.
After that, he gave us a tour of their distillery next door w 100s of American oak barrels all arranged neatly rows upon rows. All in all, it was a memorable experience, sort of like a dream, w all that tidbits of wine doing its job inside. Outside, we looked at the budding grape saplings while I practiced walking. As we were about to leave, Andrew came running w my hat and other items that I had left behind at the first wine counter! I recommend a leisurely wine tasting in the early afternoon when the winery is not crowded, then it becomes an enjoyable experience. Luckily, we didn't have any other engagements that afternoon except dinner at Tide and Wine Oyster House near Niagara Falls, Ontario. That is what we did afterward w my daughter doing all...
