North frontenac dark sky preseve was nothing short of a surprise. More than worth the 3 hour drive from Toronto. The skies were still cloudy 2 hours out but as we approached Greater Napanee, nature was kind on us

I recommend going to alternate "dark sky viewing areas" within the region, there are a few much nicer ones than this one. Also the road from Ottawa to this one is nothing short of atrocious, we went during the spring melt and saw 3 foot deep cracks in the road, entire sections of the road were blocked off by trees, fallen rocks, etc. I've gone to both dark sky viewing areas in that region on multiple occasions, but the last time we went to this one I did not feel comfortable driving my family around on such poorly kept, dangerous roads up until we got close to the preserve, amd thats despite having a very offroad capable rig.    Read moreIf you're into stargazing that's the place to be. Scintillating views of the dark sky, milkyway and shooting stars all over the place every few seconds. If you want to record the experience must carry a tripod with a good camera. Timelapse videos are a must. Phone camera also works if it has hyperlapse or other night modes. Obviously carrying a telescope is amazing for live experience. Make sure you carry some red light for navigating around the place and don't turn on your phone flash lights.
