We were on the Heritage tour and sadly, it was like watching paint dry. The lack of any enthusiasm by the guides didn't help matters. It was an old train ride through a flat, boring landscape. The stop at the grain elevator was cool. I've always wondered what it looked like inside one. I'm not trying to be mean with this review but rather trying to inspire some changes. Earlier in the week my cousin took me to the Tunnels of Moosejaw. Now that was really a lot of fun. The guides took us back in the time of Al Capone, the Cold War and the history of the Chinese immigrants that came to Canada and were treated poorly. With their role playing we got a sense of what really happened during these times. Perhaps The Southern Prairie Railway can reinact what happened on the trains by having the staff dress in period costumes and speak with the passengers like they would have done back when. Have a few "passengers" dress in that period wear. If money is an issue perhaps there are government grants that can be applied for. Perhaps hire some students that enjoy acting. There are so many possibilities to make this a "must see" tourist attraction. After the train ride we went to the museum. There were so many buildings with some really interesting and nostalgic items on display. The people that ran the museum were great. They were available to ask questions to and suggest buildings to go into. The kind gentleman at the entrance building provided us with a good history lesson on how the museum got started and what life was like in the area . I would rate the museum 5/5. It was a...

This was a planned visit with my family visiting from the UK, so tickets were booked well in advance and I would suggest you do the same as it is a great experience and as a result they sell out quickly weeks ahead of time. If you are going to visit the railway be sure to have a walk around the local town as it is very cute, it has a restored gas station and fire hall as well as a couple of great eateries. The train ride we took was the Heritage Tour which is from Ogema to Horizon with a tour of the Grain Elevator, which is really fun the tour operator was very knowledgeable and fun, making the ride that little more personal, pointing out wildlife and historic points of interest. Even given us an insight on the Locomotive and Passenger Cars history too. This was a very fun filled activity and to know that the town paid for this as the government didn't give them a grant makes it even more heartwarming. Great for all ages, only an hour from Regina and it is will...

Fantastic experience.

A few years back I did a similar train excursion in Stettler, Alberta, and was shocked to come across something similar to that in Saskatchewan. This is a much better value for $50/person, that gets you the train ride AND the museum grounds admission.

Plan a minimum 3 hours for the museum, and also take advantage of the golf cart they offer for those who can’t handle the tons of walking. We did the museum first, then the train ride at 1:30pm.

We got to the train early (around 1:00) and were one of the first to board. Go to the outdoor seating, the breeze and views is fantastic. The tour guides were great, super informative. They also served alcohol, I’m pretty sure that was cash only.

We had supper at the hotel restaurant on the corner of Main Street, it was great. The pizzeria sounded good too, we will have to try that out next time.

Worth the drive, affordable weekend activity. Would...

Wow! Started with a little over an hour's drive from Regina through some beautiful prairie. Ogema is a very pretty town, a perfect setting for the train. The ride itself was a wonderful experience and the staff onboard were friendly and had some interesting trivia about what we saw. The BBQ supper was done very well and was served in good time with things kept properly hot. Riding back we went to the bar car. Having the doors open like that made it such a unique experience! I enjoyed standing there watching for the entire trip back without impedance. This being run by volunteers is truly amazing. Hats off to everyone at Southern Prairie Railway for making such a wonderful experience!
