The Treetop Adventure has serious safety and supervision issues.
While the Treetop Adventure course is a very fun and challenging ropes course, the young workers there are either severely short-staffed or not appropriately supervised as most of the stations were completely vacant. We noticed several of the obstacles and games, including the children’s and family courses, had no staff monitoring action games where people could get stuck or confused about how to proceed.
At one point my 10 year-old daughter got stuck halfway between platforms on a skateboard-type trolley, and there was no staff person monitoring the area (she had left her backpack there but wandered off for 15 minutes). I shouted loudly for help from staff several times with no response as I backtracked the course to the nearest ladder. After several minutes I was able to make my way down to pull my daughter to the next platform using a rope that I’m assuming is there for staff to help people who get stuck. I complained to the staffer when she finally returned, but she insisted that she had no responsibility to monitor that station, that my daughter’s body weight should have been enough for her to make it across the game, and that the rope wasn’t necessary for pulling people across.
The only requirement for the full adventure course is only that participants be able to reach 5’11”. My daughter can reach 6’2”, but only weighs 75 pounds, making it difficult for her to fully complete some of the action games that rely upon body mass for momentum. The guide wire for the action game she was stuck on was far higher than 5’11”; perhaps Boler should consider raising their minimum reach or instituting a minimum weight.
In any case, this wouldn’t be an issue if there was adequate staff monitoring each station, or at least staff listening for anguished cries for help from panicking parents or children. I caution anyone who is at all anxious about trying this course or worried about their children's safety to stay away until Boler solves their...
Read moreThe place is run by teenagers, even the instructors are teens. I only give 2 stars because the tubing was not bad but the beginner ski hill has saftey hazards and like the other low-rated reviews will tell you, there are not any staff to assist beginners who are struggling. I was in the middle of my lesson when I had to go to the bathroom because it was an emergency. I came back before my lesson was over but the instructor was nowhere to be found. The only instruction I received on how to stop myself when coming down the hill was to put my skis in a pizza slice shape. However, he failed to mention that you must also put signficiant pressure downwards to stop your descent successfully, the position of your skis alone will not stop you when coming down the hill. The beginner hill has a ditch to the right that several people were continuously crashing into, which I did myself and it is very difficult to get out of it on your own. They either should have filled the ditch or put up a barricade, especially since it is a beginner hill. The ski boot was strapped extremely tight and left huge blisters on my legs which have now turned into scars. There wasn't enough signage to show where the tubing hill was, which was way in the back, out of view and no one was there to direct tubers. If you are not coming with an experienced friend who can guide you or you have weak knees like I do, I would not recommend this place. I was in the first-aid room to ice my knee and there was another person who was wheeled in for the exact same knee injury, so please take extra care when skiing for...
Read moreReduced by one star because I broke my femur. Would like to state the staff was extremely helpful. Within minutes I was surround by at least 8 rescue staff. They used an air bag to support my body as I laid helpless on the snow to get my down the hill to the medical hut where paramedics were already onsite waiting for me. The staff was extremely helpful and very concerned for my well being. I can not say enough about how well I was treated and looked after given the amount of pain i was in. I'm very thankful for the staff and cant send enough of my love for how well it all went considering how bad it was.
On a side note....
Fairly certain the safety was not adjusted on one of my skis. Fell making sharp turn and one ski feel off easily. The other one did not and twisted/broke my femur. The ski did not disengage and was still attached to me when my leg was broken. Luckily a passerby was able to remove my ski to help with the pressure until the support staff arrived. I'm am just an amateur and trying to piece together how something so horrific could have occurred. Could be wrong but in case I'm not I'd like to advise people to take extra care and make sure all is done safety. Please wear your helmets too. Could have been worse if I didnt have mine on.
Make sure your skis are adjusted and have faith in the staff if anything goes wrong, they will be there for you. One day I hope to ski again. Thank you Boler mountain for...
