It's ok if you can get passed the dead fish that float up every hour. The water isn't dirty is just that unfortunately due to catch & release when fishing, a lot of fish don't make it and end up drifting to shore. There is a big fishing industry on Lake Erie and also because the park is not maintained - it's a decommissioned park, you'll have to clear the dead fish yourself. Also if you're here with small kids or pets, there are A LOT of turkey vultures that feed off of the dead fish. The beach is mostly rocky with a few patches of tree's for cover from the sun so you better bring a tent or umbrella. Personally, because of the fish, I wouldn't come back here. Rock Point and Selkirk are in close vicinity and I would go there for the day instead. Also, there is a sandy beach by the cottages but you're not allowed to park there (off of Briar's Lane.) So maybe that would be a better experience just keep in mind the parking would be far away at James Allen.

Been coming to the James Allan beach for a few years now and overall it is a peaceful and quiet beach with very few people. The beach is a mix of pebbles and sand (more pebble than sand). The beach doesn’t seem to be maintained to any extent, and you will get a scattered fish washed up and maybe some excess vegetation. However, some days for the peace and quiet, you can turn a blind eye to that and enjoy it. Worth checking out if your looking for a less crowded beach.

Not cared for at all for a provincial park. Very poor shape with poor access and no road maintenance. No trash containers, so there is trash left from other visitors. Water area is nice once you get to it. This place could be a great spot if it was cared for a tiny bit. Update: Grass has been cut, garbage has not been picked up. Have to look past the parking area and just walk to the water, beautiful..

We have been attending this beach for the last 20 years and sad to see such deterioration. The beaches are littered with so much dead rotting fish that you have to constantly have to dodge on a casual shore walk. The vegetation growth is overtaking the beach. Garbage is littered every where. Green algae in the water and shore. Boulders and stone litter the shore in locations that have historically been clear. I hate to see what the washroom would even look like today. This beach should be visited regularly by staff to review the conditions of the beach, perform shore clean up and regularly drag the shoreline. Sorry to say I would not return to this beach...
