I recently had the pleasure of spending three nights camping at Rondeau Provincial Park in Ontario, and I must say it was an incredible experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the park's natural beauty, well-maintained facilities, and friendly staff.
First and foremost, the campground's location is simply breathtaking. Nestled along the shores of Lake Erie, the park boasts stunning views of the water, picturesque trails, and a diverse ecosystem that is a treat for nature enthusiasts. Whether you enjoy birdwatching, hiking, or simply relaxing on the beach, Rondeau Provincial Park has something for everyone.
The campsites at Rondeau Provincial Park were spacious and well-maintained. Each site provided a good level of privacy, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the tranquility of the surroundings. The campground amenities were excellent, with clean washrooms and convenient shower facilities available nearby. I appreciated the effort put into maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the campgrounds.
The park staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout my stay. They were always available to answer questions, provide assistance, and offer recommendations for activities in and around the park. Their passion for preserving the park's natural wonders was evident, and it added an extra layer of appreciation to my experience.
One of the highlights of my camping trip was exploring the park's trails. Rondeau Provincial Park offers a variety of well-marked trails that cater to different skill levels. Whether you're seeking a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, you'll find a trail that suits your preferences. I particularly enjoyed the Marsh Boardwalk Trail, where I had the opportunity to observe a wide range of bird species and other wildlife.
Overall, my time at Rondeau Provincial Park was nothing short of fantastic. It provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing me to reconnect with nature and unwind. I highly recommend this park to anyone seeking a memorable camping experience in Ontario. I am already looking forward to my next visit to Rondeau Provincial Park and creating more cherished memories.

Read moreMy family enjoyed this park in general. We camped during the Thanksgiving Weekend at North Campground #174. The pit toilet was absolutely terrible (we noticed no one really used it) because the air inside was not ventilating property and it sat in the afternoon sun for too long. Luckily, the clean flush toilet was close enough. Garbage and recyling drop was well organized and accessible. Our site did not have any trees to tie up clothes line, hammock, or tarp canopy (lucky it didn't rain). It did have decent privacy and large enough to fit two tents easily.
Unfortunately, we had terrible neighbours. A group of young people arrived close to 10pm and started to make noise. At one point, there were four cars and around 10 people, smoking pot and drinking. They were clearly not experienced campers (or just drunk?), because they did not pitch their tent properly (poles were sticking out) and they used their car headlight because none of them had headlamps or flashlights. Then they started to play loud music at 11pm! I went over and asked them to quiet down and explained that it's "quiet hours after 10pm". They stared at me blankly as if they did not understand me. Around midnight the three cars left but the remaining people kept yelling and laughing by the fire. I had to endure their noise until 1am, when I finally convinced my sleepy husband to talk to them...He chose to yell at them from a distance (safer decision I think) and that seemed to work. Early in the morning at 6am as I'm watching the sunrise, I saw them emerge from their tent, looking cold, and they sat in their running car for an hour, then they hastily packed their tent and left without having breakfast. They left behind their garbage. My husband tried to wave at them to get their attention but they ignored us. I called the park office as soon as possible, but I'm sure the young people left unobstructed and probably without paying for camping. Never in over 25 years of camping, did I ever have such terrible camp neighbours. Why can't Parks Ontario prevent people from entering the campsite late at night, just for the purpose...
Read moreHuge park with great biking and hiking trails! CAMP SITES: the sites are pretty large with average privacy. There is plenty of room for trailers, bikes and an extra vehicle. The washroom and shower facilities are plentiful, clean and well kept. The gravel roads are well maintained and easy to ride on even for smaller children.
BIKE TRAILS: The trails near the campsites are mostly paved and suitable for any rider. While you share many of these with cars, there's plenty of room for all vehicles to be safe. As you head towards the southwest end of the park (the end of the peninsula), you have choices of many biking and hiking roots; you can stay on paved roots right to the end of the peninsula or choose the off-road routes. The off-road roots are still quite flat but you're more likely to find mud, sand and a little tougher terrain. However, the off-road biking trails are still quite usable by even novice bikers.
CANOE AND KAYAK: there is easy access to the bay on the inside of the peninsula or the waters are a little calmer than lake Erie. From this bay, you can explore all around the peninsula and especially the less traveled Southwest end. The Bay is not enclosed so you can easily continue on to lake Erie. You can also launch directly onto lake Erie but you will have to do so from the south west end since there are cottages along most of the lake Erie side of the peninsula.
HIKING TRAILS: The hiking trails are plentiful and easy to use for even novice hikers. Since the peninsula is very flat, all of the routes are also flat as well. If available, I highly recommend hiking on the north side of the peninsula where you can walk through the middle of the wetlands. However, this route gets flooded sometimes and I don't think it is ever officially open.
STORE: The park is large enough to support a large camp store which serves everything from burgers to ice cream right by the water.
There's plenty of space in this park to walk, bike, hike and I'm sure you will not be...
