Canadian Golf and Country Club — Attraction in Ottawa

Worst golf experience I have ever had. We played the east 9 hole course. By the fourth hole the ranger - Marc - showed up telling us to play faster (we as a foursome were already not playing slow - an hour in by the end of hole 5). The people behind us were waiting once or twice one being on hole two which was a par 3, so obviously have to wait until the green is clear. By the time we reach the green on hole 5 Marc shows up again and asks us to skip hole 6 to open up pace of play, mind you every time he showed up he said I want everyone to have fun, at this point we were not at all because he talked longer than it would have taken to finish the hole giving this whole story how the owner was 2 groups behind us so didn't want to hold her up. Meanwhile we are paying participants getting our game cut short instead. He did said we could play hole 1/2/3 again to make up which are by far the most boring holes on the entire course. So we played through skipping 6 and going to 7 as requested and then had to wait for the group infront of us as the group behind us didn't even approach the tee to hole 6 as we were now almost finished hole 7. The group behind also finished their round at 7:15 while we now finished at 6:55 a whole 20 minutes difference and more than enough time to have played our round as we paid for. We were also all playing great and I was coming off a birdie on hole 4 before Marc showed up then played terrible the rest of the way. I think he clued in when he asked how the round was and I said great until after hole 4 then it was awful. Safe to say I will not play here again as the rangers at this course are always so annoying and bothersome during the round, would NOT recommend anyone traveling from out of town or the Ottawa region to play elsewhere if you would like to enjoy yourself and not be asked to skip holes when the owner can play there any time. First, the CGCC is a well organised and professionally operated course with exceptional management and staff. This year both courses were in fantastic condition, so thank you grounds keeper's and Mother Nature.

Also this year I bit the bullet by committing to lessons, knowing the course standards and doing my research I chose Brett Clagett Woods as my instructor.

His approach at first was straight forward and honest, "here's what we have to fix" after watching me take a few practice swings..."well pretty much everything starting with your grip." I appreciated the professional direct approach with a good sense of humour added for balance and proceeded with lessons throughout the later half of the summer, which sadly finished today for the season.

In summary, Brett was always professional and supportive, not afraid to point out when I diverged from previous lessons, yes golf is a work of layers and progression. I also trusted Brett with all of my club fittings for a deserved set of new sticks as a personal reward.

I will spend the rest of this season implementing what I've gleaned from the lessons on the course and although I've already taken an astonishing 35+ shots off my first round this season (see why I took lessons?) to being in mid 80's as of my last round, I can only credit hard work and a skilled instructor to this success.

If you are considering lessons I would highly 100% recommend Brett at the Canadian it will be money well invested.

Had the absolute pleasure of playing this course today (June 10/2023) and to say I was impressed would be a complete understatement!! Right from pulling in the parking lot to teeing off on the first hole it was amazing!! The service in the pro shop was top notch!! The practice area was absolutely incredible!!! The food and patio was fantastic we teed off at 2:20 and decided to get a bite after warming up but thought we should just take it to the first tee since we were ordering at 1:30 but we had our food with in 10 minutes of ordering and it was the most delicious food I’ve ever had at a golf course we had more then enough time to eat and still made it to the tee off 10 minutes early! The starter marshal and all marshals were absolutely fantastic very friendly and encouraging to the young lad we had playing with us! The course was in pristine condition!! The GPS carts were by far the absolute comfiest carts I have ever used in my entire life!! Everyone had said before on reviews that they controlled the power and shut the carts down at certain spots in the course this is 100% not true the only place they shut them down is if ur off the course or driving where you shouldn’t be if you follow the rules you’ll be just fine!
