Our entire visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum property was a truly wonderful and memorable experience. Prior to our trip to Prince Edward Island, I had made a reservation at Matthew’s Carriage Ride for my boyfriend and I. When we arrived at the property, an hour ahead of our scheduled one hour ride, we were immediately greeted by one of the property owners, and were informed that due to the high humidity and heat, our ride would be with a tractor (as opposed to horses). I was somewhat disappointed; however, I was willing to make the most of what ended up being a most enjoyable experience. “Matthew” was available to take us for our ride ahead of our scheduled time, so we “got aboard”.
It was a beautiful summer day, and my boyfriend and I had the entire carriage to ourselves. We were taken across the country road through pastoral fields and rolling hills surrounding Campbell’s Pond. I really felt that I was taken back in time, and was a character alongside Anne, in one of Lucy Maud’s stories. At the most northern point we came to a private white sands beach, where “Matthew” let us disembark the carriage to explore and dip our toes in the ocean. We had forgotten our camera, so “Matthew” graciously offered to take photos, that he later forwarded to us.
Upon returning to the Anne of Green Gables Museum, we toured the home of L.M. Montgomery’s aunt and uncle and had a great conversation with the owners (who are second cousins of the late L.M. Montgomery). We learned a lot of the family history, and of the surrounding area. For anyone who’s wanting a cherished memory of their trip to Prince Edward Island, this is definitely a place to stop for a most enjoyable visit! Thank you, George and...
Read moreI am very confused on how to rate this. The advertisement is incredibly misleading. This is not horse drawn, a carriage is pulled by a little lawn mower tractor. And for the cost, ($130 for 30min, but really like 20 min because you stop and talk for 10min) this truly felt like such a scam. Matthew was an amazing guy and I appreciate the effort he put in to try and give us info before the ride and in that 10min chat break in between, but I definitely don't recommend. And then the Green Gables museum is nothing to go crazy about. Honestly the most exciting part of the visit was the gift shop 🤦🏼♀️ And if I'm being honest, the only reason we came was for a horse drawn carriage ride, my friends and I have not read the Anne of Gables book and most of the tour chat was about the land marks referred to in the book, which made no sense to us. I then asked a lady later on in the gift shop if they would be getting any more horses in the future and she said likely not as the heat is too much for them. I work with horses for a living (and have for the last 12 years) and with an appropriate schedule and swapping between different horses throughout the day, it is more than do able.dont waste your money on the carriage ride. Do recommend the...
Read moreI’m not sure what may have changed in a year since most of the 5 star reviews, but the ‘carriage ride’, although in a beautiful location, was definitely not worth the $200 touch for an hour. It’s essentially a tractor pull down a path (which is pretty) to a beach, albeit a lovely beach. Commentary while on the ride isn’t possible as it’s pulled by a tractor. The gentleman driver was very friendly, but we essentially paid to hang out on said beach. Back on the property, we thought the tab would have included a walk through the museum - it normally does not. We were given a ‘complimentary’ pass when I gave my honest feedback that I thought the price was steep for what was provided, but the feedback was clearly not well received. I understand the draw to the Anne of Green Gables site, but would advise anyone considering the carriage ride to realize that you are paying a significant fee for what is provided. To each their own, for us we would definitely not recommend. This was the only place in PEI where we absolutely felt scammed and taken...
