Awesome Place !!! Every Canadian needs to pay and visit The Garrison Petawawa Military Museum is home to three main artifact collections. Each of these collections come together to give our visitors an informative and entertaining overview of Garrison Petawawa and how we fit in to Canada’s Armed Forces today. A visit to the museum is a great family activity for people of all ages to enjoy!

Garrison Petawawa Collection Canadian Forces Museums hold an amazing array of objects relating to Canada’s military heritage, and the Museums at Garrison Petawawa are no exception!

At the Garrison Petawawa Military Museum you will learn:

Why does the Garrison Petawawa Military Museum have a small wooden box made by Adrien Arcand, the leader of the Christian Nationalist Socialist Party? Why are artillery shells made by a local Canadian foundry, marked with Russian Cyrillic text? What did Garrison Petawawa and Sir Alexander Graham Bell have in common? What is the connection between Hollywood and 427 Squadron? Garrison Petawawa Museum Collection

Canadian Airborne Forces Collection Take a journey through the history of parachuting in Canada and learn about an exciting aspect of Canada’s Armed Forces!

Great little military history museum and especially awesome to read the display of an Important Indigenous Sergeant, Sergeant Tommy Prince a Brave, Creative, Canadian Indigenous member of The Canadian Military and his important story, and the Elite Special Service Force , great place to learn about it! Lovely up close photo of Sergeant Prince receiving his medals at Buckingham Palace,he also received from the American President the Silver Star medal, which is the 3rd highest decoration of American military in combat medal, everyone should know who Tommy Prince is... hard to believe he could not find a civilian job... Unbelievable... so he returned to Military again... Also the r Actual/real Jeep that is set up to parachute is super cool to see how it was rigged up before being parachuted down. If you pay attention and read the displays it is worth the trip and especially if a student out there needs to do a history project on an important Canadian or a Native / Indigenous Member of Canadian...

Really treasured seeing/reading the Seargent Thomas (Tommy) Prince(RIP), most decorated Indigenous army member display, photos and story, I had not recalled learning of him in any Canadian History books nor museums growing up. I think there should be a memorial monument of him so more people also learn of the important role and the plentiful of Indigenous people in the army which many likely do not realize. His bravery and Service earned him over 11 medals, but army men have to apply for the medals so he has 11(now that's a humble man as he qualified for many more so he would have over 11 had he taken the time to do the paperwork) but, between serving 2 tour's of duty in the Korean war, he was busy prioritizing/working as Vice-President of the Manitoba Indian Association, and he spoke out in favor of Abolishing the Indian Act and RESPECTING EXISTING TREATIES (something that our Government of Canada appears to have issues to do in 2025, for example with ramming through BillC5...

I enjoyed a self guided tour of this museum with a group of friends. We all live in Pembroke, Ontario, which is approximately 30 mins away. Some exhibits you can step right up to and touch. Others are protected behind glass. There was a very comprehensive timeline of Petawawa's contributions to every major campaign from ww1 to present. When I was there a section of the museum was being updated and therefore was not available for viewing, so I do intend to go back, but I wouldn't have noticed a significant hole in the timeline if I had not seen the signs stating that this section was not open. Not that I'm a history buff, so perhaps someone who's knowledge is more comprehensive in Canada's military history and actions could have seen what was missing.
