This was a very interesting stop but somewhat disappointed by our guided tour. Other reviews had mentioned the amazing tours, and a worker at the Prince Rupert tourist info center said to be sure to take a tour. So we did. Our tour guide was amazing! She was very personable and had so much information to share. But she said at the beginning of our tour that because there were 2 other private tours going on (2 large tour busses were there at the same time) that we would have just a "mini" tour. And I think she rushed thru our tour as she also said she had to go help clean up from a wedding that was held at the Cannery the night before. Our 11:00 am tour started at 11:10 and we were done by 11:45. It was very interesting, I'm just disappointed we didn't get the full deal. We spent some time afterwards going thru the rest of the buildings that were open to the public, and we had a light lunch at the cafe. My husband didn't much care for his chowder, he said it was more like potato soup. But I enjoyed my rhubarb brie grilled cheese...

Visited as a tour, part of Rail Travel Tours train from Toronto to Prince Rupert and back. Our group of 40 was split into two groups and we never crossed paths until the end. It is quite an enormous site which housed Europeans (managers), Japanese, Chinese, and Indigenous housed separately and in that descending ranking.

It is all very well preserved except the stink is gone. Hard to imagine canned salmon with lids sealed with lead solder. A huge operation at one time now empty but for the canning equipment and the vats for separating and extracting the oil, the fat, and the entrails. An empty place telling the toil of thousands for pennies a day

A firm memory and a story of today's progress. Two hour tour was a bit tiring, but it is a big story not to...

Great museum and neat place to stay overnight. We stayed at the North Pacific Cannery's hostel (a converted bunkhouse from back in the day) during our visit to Prince Rupert. It was rustic, but affordable, with access to a kitchen, wi-fi, and even a TV to watch movies.

Staff were really kind and friendly. The biscuits and salmon chowder from the mess hall were delicious to eat!

It was quiet during our stay and really beautiful along the river at night. During the day, we enjoyed learning about the cannery's history and also driving to nearby hikes and attractions in the area, e.g. Diana Lake and Butze Rapids.

Would stay here again and recommend for anyone looking for a unique place to stay during your trip to the...

Really interesting historic site and museum! It's set in a super picturesque and scenic location, the buildings themselves are well preserved, and the tour was very interesting and informative - it's included with the price of admission, gives access to otherwise closed off areas, and includes some really interesting history of the area and the way the cannery workers lived. The specific times are listed on their website - definitely make sure to align your visit with a tour time! There's also a small restaurant on site with a nice cozy feel to it and surprisingly good food and a friendly chef - would recommend grabbing a bite here during your visit but be prepared for slow service.

The North Pacific Cannery has a lot of potential. They have definitely done some work to it over the last few years. The scenery is beautiful. The history is great. They do need to improve on the displaying and making it more engaging.Displays would be nice if they were era related (1910 building should not have a cardboard 200? Mandarin orange box. Another house had bottles of insecticide and rubbing alcohol behind the rope). We ate at the Mess Hall and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff member was interactive and very friendly. Gift shop staff member was also very friendly. As always for the past 20 some years, the model railroads/trains were a favourite!

We had such an interesting time here. I didn't realize it but the admission includes the guided tour so I suggest planning your visit so you can tag along. The guide was so impressive, knowledgeable and personable. Probably the best guide we encountered. If you get a chance, definitely do the tour. I believe there are 3 per day. Check out their website for times. There's also a cute little gift shop where you buy your admission tickets. Interesting history about this place and the people who worked there. What they endured was incredible.
