Beautiful spot to explore with or without your kids (6+ in my opinion for the lock wall walks without parent at arms length). When crossing the road path from the long dock, be careful as there isn't much space to slam breaks if you happen to cross and a vehicle turns that wind coming up the hill, listen and look for traffic and cross quickly. The area of exploration is quite large and you could spend hours up, down and on either sides. Spots to fish easily and some better if your willing to climb or whack through some bush to the river creek part or just off the shore on the upper part. Pretty in all seasons! Perfect spot for photos and picnics.

Just 100 meter east of the Locks is the generating station at Kingston Mills. It sits on the edge of Colonel By Lake. In 1914, on the site of an old grist mill, a new hydroelectric plant was constructed by Gananoque Light & Power. The plant was originally constructed with one turbine, Unit #1 was considered the “workhorse of the company” and continues to generate electricity today. Two major expansions occurred, one in 1926 saw the installation of an additional generator which was later upgraded in 1971, at the same time as a third expansion took place with a third generator energized in 1975 increasing the output of the station to 2.2 MW.

Great place to explore the age old locking mechanism, enjoy the sitting in park and interacting with other people. Getting to know the methods behind the wheel from expert who work there. The Kingston Mills area has a nice little park with tables, washrooms and a ferry ride (owned) to give you an experience of the Rideau Canal. On the other side of road you can sit an enjoy a nice barbecue, fishing experience along with a small trail to explore. Great parking space, and a good spot to spend a couple of hours in peace. Fun for kids to explore, and lucky if they get to see the train passing iver the bridge.

The canal locks were not what we were expecting. We’ve been to the Welland canal and it is all automated and you look through a fence. I had to google it to see if it was still active and google says it is. You can walk beside and over the canal like you were working there. It’s pretty cool. We locked a lock at the lock for our anniversary. <3. I think it’s a neat area to visit for something fun and different to do. A warmer day would of been an awesome picnic idea and it was fun to watch the people fishing from the dock area. It’s definitely an area to visit even for “locals”

About this a place with a lake and stunning landscapes can evoke a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. Start by describing the serene waters of the lake, reflecting the sky like a mirror. Then, paint a picture of the surrounding landscape: lush greenery, majestic mountains, perhaps a scattering of wildflowers adding pops of color. Use vivid imagery to transport your readers to this idyllic setting, engaging all their senses to fully immerse them in the scene.

This is a really interesting place to stop, especially for people who have never seen locks in action. I didn't realize there were places with multiple locks in a row (I've only ever seen single locks), so it was cool to see. These locks are also manually operated, so you can walk alongside and see workers rotating the levers that open the locks. There are picnic tables, washrooms, and parking available. It's a great place to bring the family for an outing!
