Poonamalie Lockstation — Attraction in Rideau Lakes

Visited another lock station on my project to visit every lock station on the Rideau Canal via my motorbike. The Poonamalie lock station was another high light of this project. It is easy to get to via highway #15, yet far enough to be tranquil and peaceful. This lock station is on my list to visit again. As a result of this project, a friend lent me a copy of her book “Rideau Waterway” by Robert Legget. The book is a wealth of information about the building of the canal, and reading this book is helping me appreciate the canal more. The bad news is that the book is out of print, but available as an electronic copy. Next stop ... Beveridges...

Great place for camping with our little kayak. Lots of lawn space, with picnic tables and bbq grills. Very clean washrooms and friendly staff. Quiet spot with good fishing and dock to launch kayak. Easy paddling to Smith's Falls for 2 other great lock...
