Wow, what a great adventure. Had to check this place out while visiting Kirkland lake and definitely worth the drive. Was the only one up the mountain the day I visited, and what a truly spectacular lookout at the top. For its length it's probably the most challenging climb I've experienced that's an actual trail, ropes and all. A must see for the experienced climber! Four stars because there isn't enough warning to those without 4x4's. Don't think you can take the trail leading up there in the winter without AWD. Even my Durango had an iffy time with the clearance.

The road was washed out on the way there but we could easily get over the wash out on foot. The climb wasnt too steep at the start. We followed a creek and thankfully someone marked the trail up with some white paint marks. The climb got a little more difficult near the top but a person with average athletic abilities can easily get up to the top. It took us about 1hr to get to the top moving at slow pace, stopping to take pictures and rest. The only bad part was the bugs. Almost unbearable. Bug spray is a must. Views were breathtaking a.must see.

Unless you have a 4x4 truck you're walking in from the highway, path in is in rough shape. Which isn't a big deal, its maybe a 20 minute walk to the actual mountain. The higher you go the more challenging it gets, but the top is worth the effort for the phenomenal view. Not a hike for kids or someone afraid of heights. Recommend highly for anyone visiting the area looking for a fun but challenging hike with friends.
