I spent one night tenting at Watchorn Provincial Park in June 2022, after searching for a campground with less mosquitoes and lake views. I discovered this lesser known gem that will now be a favourite on the list in the future!
The campground is small and narrow and has a mix of basic and electrical sites along Lake Manitoba. The tenting sites are walk-in (you can park on the grass a short walk away, sites 49-56) and are prime lakefront properties! There was great air flow through the campsites and minimal mosquitoes during the day. I loved waking up to the sound of the waves on the lake and watching the sun go down over the water while having a fire in the evening.
The beach was rocky and had quite a bit of seaweed close to the shore, and it appeared to be very shallow for a long ways in.
There was a modern washroom building with showers and a newer outhouse building, along with multiple water taps, picnic shelter, and day use areas along the lake. You can purchase firewood for $5 a bundle at the little red barn behind the playground. There was good cell reception here as well.
I really enjoyed this campground and will definitely...
Read moreStunning campsites face right onto the beach! With mature burr oak dotting the campsite area and treeline behind, you're well shaded from morning sun and can always find shade throughout the day if you want it, but can then watch the sunset over Lake Manitoba in the evening. Fairly small (so intimate feeling); loads of families when we went; staff were incredibly friendly and easygoing and happy to help; grounds are well-maintained and really lovely; outhouses were mercifully very clean; firewood was free! Campsites were fairly open on the sides so could not be considered 'private' at all, but we had enough room that it didn't really matter. The wind coming off the lake can be very fierce, so...
Read moreNice campground, make sure if your reserving a campsite and you want to have shade you confirm that your site has it. Also note that all electric campsites are on the side opposite side of the lake. If your bringing your dog, you are now allowed to take them to the beach area. TIP: before you enter the campground there is a road leading straight to the lake, it's off site so you can let your dogs cool down in the water without getting in trouble. The bathrooms and shower are in good condition and there is a little store in the far back that sells wood and...
