My recent visit to Asessippi Ski Resort was an absolute winter wonderland and an experience I will treasure for a lifetime. Nestled in the picturesque Manitoba landscape, this resort exceeded my expectations in every way, providing top-notch skiing opportunities, excellent amenities, and a truly unforgettable time.

I want to ensure I write a comprehensive review so that I am not taken as just a disgruntled individual. For full disclosure, my fiancee and I were planning on booking at Asessippi (had even paid the deposit), when a number of events led to us cancelling.

I would like to start with the pros: The area is absolutely gorgeous. The valley, vine chapel, and river area was what my fiancee and I were most hoping for for our wedding. It is very breathtaking in both the winter and the summer.

Now that I have addressed all that we have found enjoyable about our experience I would like to list the reasons for a low review:

The staff was poorly organized and non-responsive throughout the first few months. As an example I would list that we asked for her to inquire into drapery for the tent, which she agreed to do (as she had rented the tent for us, and we did not know the dimensions). After over a month without results, we were told to looking into it ourselves, which led to weeks before we could get the tent dimensions.

The conversations were also very persistent on options that would cost more money, and not cognizant of what we wanted. We were pushed to rent out fans and bug zappers for our outdoor wedding (despite saying no), told to expect a $400 fee for the dance floor (which was listed as included in the contract), as well as meeting a number of difficulties in trying to provide liquor ourselves (double charging bar services, adding in security costs, and a 40% corkage fee).

On the topic of cost, the staff took no opportunity to increase price for granted. Gratuity and tax were added to everything including items such as the dance floor, and items from other vendors (tent rental). We were also quoted $175 (plus gratuity and taxes) in costs to have a event permit for the park filled out, which upon research we found was a $50 dollar form that would take minutes to complete.

We had hopes that having one point of contact for rentals would relieve stress, but we found that even talking about planning the wedding was a chore. Safe to say our decision to move on from Asessippi has rekindled...

With three chair lifts providing 26 ski runs, two terrain parks, downhill snow tubing and countless forest trails, Asessippi will not disappoint!

Needing a warm up during your downhill adventure? Asessippi Ski Area & Resort also provides a lovely indoor gathering area including an eatery, a gift shop, and of course a changing area for you to get all bundled up and for your day on the slopes. If you’re far out on the hill, and need a quick break from the winter weather there is a cabin cozied between trees conveniently on the ski out. Here, you can order a variety of drinks and some food items as well. With a blazing fire keeping you warm, it’s the perfect pit stop for a full day of fun!
