La Barriere Park is located in the R.M. of Richot @ 4403 Waverly but is owned by the City of Winnipeg. In 1969 the city purchased an area along the Lasalle River which later became La Barriere Park. The parks greatest asset is its natural area which requires on going protections & preservation. The park is considered an ecologically significant area due to its pristine river bottom area. I believe that this 323 acre park is a nature lovers paradise. The park hours r 7:00 -10:00. The park has new washroom facilities build b 4 it was just portable toilets. Also the park built 2 new cricket fields in partnership with the Manitoba Cricket Association. There r also plans 2 build a canoe/kayak launch area. If u would like more information on the parks name just visit the Heritage St. Norbert website. In the park u can kayak or canoe, fish, there r 2 baseball diamonds (not being used), 2 cricket fields, a frisbee course which needs to b updated so u don't miss any holes & trails 2 walk on both sides of the river as well as bar-b que pits for a picnic however some of the pits need 2 b fixed. There r also picnic tables but they could use more. Its a nice & quiet park just 2 get out & enjoy the fresh air, birds & nature. I really enjoy this park because...
Read moreThe park is beautiful summer and winter. It is a nice location for family picnics as there are some covered cooking areas and a few fire pits. There are a variety of walking trails so you can walk for half an hour or three hours. The trails are groomed all seasons. Many people enjoy water sports such as canoeing, kayaking and fishing from shore in the summer and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The park is very quiet in the summer. In the winter the beauty is marred somewhat by snowmobiles on the river. The park has fallen into a bit of disrepair in the last few years and I am not certain if the washroom facilities are...
Read moreWas not easily assessable at all today. So my google took me one way and the road was close after reaching 250m to the location. We did pass a road closure sign some ways before reaching this point .but because we had no idea we continued. The road closure perhaps could have added an alternative way which would have been a piece of vital information for those of us who are not familiar with that community. Apparently, the water caused the road to be closed. Thanks to the young man on the last house on your left of the barricade for the alternative directions we found our way. Beautiful park for the family...
