Family attended on opening weekend and were welcome by a newly renovated discovery centre. There is an abundance of hands on activities for the kids, an extensive trail system with ample wildlife around. The staff was helpful, inviting and always available for questions.
Activities that were readily available for the price of admission included dip netting, interactive discovery centre displays, rooftop viewing platform and an extensive board walk/trail system throughout the marshland.
Canoe rentals are available for a fee.
Lots of parking on site and modern unisex washwooms inside the centre. Cafe on the second floor offers freshly prepared food at a reasonable price. Small gift shop at the entrance is also available.

I knew about the great room at the back of the Interpretive Centre and really hoped it would keep my 3 young friends occupied and entertained, as well as helping them to learn new things. And Oak Hammock Marsh did so in spades. The face painting was a hit but the feeding of the Salamander and fat head minnows was the winner, they even got to touch a Salamander and Garter Snake.
We ended up staying much longer than I anticipated we would, the kids I was with really do have seriously short attention spans. We had picked up a couple of owl pellets to dissect when we got home, but will save that for their next visit. That will give me time to try and find a chart with the bones like the gift shop used to sell but doesn't seem to anymore; too bad because I want the pellets to be even more learning and not just taking...
