On Friday August 24, I brought my family (9 of us in total) to Tinkertown. Later in the day my oldest daughter had an accident while on the Sea Ray, where her hand got squished in a ride lap bar or the mechinism. (They ask you to raise your hands while the bar goes up and somehow it got caught in the lap bar of the seat behind her.) Thankfully my sister in law was on the ride with her and quickly attended to her screams along with another parent, and then the ride worker. They took her over to the First-Aid station where she was given ice. I ran over from the ride I was at and then another worker came in (Norm) he asked if I’d filled out a form, after telling me he’d need her information, I began to give it to him, and he replied “no, you can fill it out”. Apparently he didn’t see I was busy consoling my child. I filled out the form and he finally asked my daughter what had happened. This is when he said to her “if you’d listened you wouldn’t have gotten hurt, that’s why listening is important”
She had lifted her hands and had to defend herself as a 7 year old child to an adult!
I was furious! And walked out of the First Aid shack, holding back my frustration with the rude comment. Taking my 7 year old with her baggie of ice and dirty greasy hand. My husband asked Norm why the only first aid she received was ice, and why her hand wasn’t cleaned (concerned about infection) to which he was told “there is a sink here, her mom could have washed her hand”.
I understand that accidents happen and I don’t blame Tinkertown for the accident, but the way that the “First Aid” person dealt with this situation was appalling.
After this incident, Norm proceeded to follow us through the park, yelled at and got into my brothers face and laughed at me as I tried to talk to one of the owners Marie, saying “she’s the wrong person to complain to anyways” - laughing as he walked away.
He specifically told me not to take her to the hospital, but maybe just to a walk-in clinic. And got defensive when my brother asked names of the staff and who was first aid certified.
I did take her to the hospital where they gave her x-rays; nothing was broken, but she will lose a couple of nails and has bruising and swelling. Thankfully this accident wasn’t worse and all she will lose is nails and not fingers.
I am very disappointed in the lack of compassion shown to my child, and my family. We had 5 children with us who were very upset.
As someone who works in a Customer Service based field, I would never treat a customer with such attitude or lack of compassion. As well as NO follow up phone call to see if she is okay. I am saddened that my opinion of a place our family enjoyed going to has been ruined by one employee and no...
Read moreWe have been going to Tinkertown once a year for over 15 years, and I finally am reviewing it. We really enjoy Tinkertown. Admission is free for everyone, but a ride-all-day wristband is currently $18. There used to be BOGO coupons in the Yellow Pages and Show and Save, but as far as I know, they are no longer available. It is still a phenomenal deal without a coupon. There are fun rides for kids of all ages, even the older crowd. One of the best things about the park is that you can bring your own cooler with drinks and food so you don't have to spend a fortune at concessions. However, you will enjoy their giant pickles, cotton candy and little doughnuts if you are willing to splurge. Their cotton candy is fresh, too. Plenty of picnic tables to enjoy your picnic. The gift shop is great, especially if you like Beanie Boos. My only negative is that some of the ride operators are not friendly and one or two have even been a little weird. There are no refunds, even if the weather goes crazy and they have to close down. On our last visit, two of our favourite rides (ferris wheel and Gunslinger) were closed. Kids were slightly disappointed, but got over it really quickly as they enjoyed all the other great rides. Misting fan is a real treat on steamy days. There is mini golf there, but we have never played. Don't miss the train ride - it circles the whole park. All in all, a fun destination for families with kids...
Read moreI was quite disgusted today as I watched two staff be extremely rude to a family. The family was sitting down to eat and we watched an older tall blonde female ask them to move to a different area as this area was only for people paying to eat. There was literally no one else sitting down. We watched her make a shooing motion with her hands and say it's time to leave. She then proceeded to stand at the ticket booth and laugh with her co workers while the lady put all the food away. Some time went by and then a second older Male employee asked the family to leave again and they did. I approached the staff and told her they should both be ashamed of themselves for treating other people that way and for demanding them to move when there was clearly no one else sitting at any of the tables. Her response to me was "well, we have rules" in a rude tone. Exactly what kind of rule is that and you do realize that it is tinker town. I'm very disappointed in what I saw, this is supposed to be a family place where kids can have fun. Not where employees are so rude to people trying to enjoy their day. It was unnecessary and I hope the other staff treat the customers who are human beings with alittle more respect. And if the tall blonde gets to read this, I hope you think about how you would want to be treated if you were at an established next time, before you belittle people again the way I saw...
