✨ Absolutely Breathtaking! ✨

I had an incredible experience at the Parc naturel régional de Portneuf! This place is a true winter wonderland and an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves nature, adventure, and stunning frozen landscapes. ❄️

Scenery & Atmosphere

From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with majestic ice walls, spectacular frozen waterfalls, and an enchanting winter forest. The crystal-clear ice formations, combined with the rugged rock cliffs and the peaceful river nearby, create a setting that feels straight out of a fairytale. 🌲🏔️ The ice curtains and stalactites hanging from the rock face are just stunning! I was amazed by the sheer scale and beauty of the frozen structures—some of them towered several meters high, forming cascading sheets of blue and white ice.

Things to Do

This is a fantastic place to spend a few hours exploring. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, a winter hiker, or just someone looking for a peaceful escape in nature, you'll love it here. Here are some things I highly recommend: ✔️ Exploring the ice wall – You can enter some of the wall and see the frozen walls up close! The way the light filters through the ice is absolutely mesmerizing. ✔️ Hiking & Snowshoeing – The trails leading to the ice wall are well-maintained, and the surrounding forest is just as beautiful as the caves themselves. If you love winter hiking, this is an amazing spot! ✔️ Photography – If you're into photography, this place offers jaw-dropping photo opportunities at every turn. The contrast between the dark rocks, the blue ice, and the snow-covered trees is simply magical. ✔️ Enjoying the tranquility – Despite being a popular spot, it’s still easy to find peace and solitude here, especially if you visit early in the morning or on weekdays.

Access & Tips

🚗 Getting there: The site is accessible via Parc naturel régional de Portneuf, and there are designated parking areas. The trails are well-marked, but depending on weather conditions, they can be a bit challenging, so come prepared. 🥾 Best time to visit: Winter is obviously the best time to experience the ice caves and frozen waterfalls, but the park is beautiful year-round. The ice formations are usually at their peak from December to March. 🔥 Dress warmly! It gets quite cold inside the caves, and good winter boots, gloves, and layers are essential for a comfortable experience. Snowshoes can be helpful, especially after fresh snowfall. 📷 Bring a good camera – Pictures don’t do justice to the breathtaking scenery, but trust me, you’ll want to capture the beauty of this place!

Overall Experience

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This was one of the most amazing winter adventures I’ve had in Quebec. The mix of pristine wilderness, icy landscapes, and peaceful surroundings makes it an unforgettable experience. Whether you're looking for an exciting outdoor adventure or just a quiet place to enjoy nature, the Portneuf Ice Caves will not disappoint.

Would I come back? Absolutely! I can't wait to visit again and explore more of this beautiful park in different seasons. If you’re anywhere near Quebec City or the Portneuf region, do yourself a favor and go see this place in winter—you won’t regret it! 💙❄️

It's not your average cheap camping! I was impressed by how awesome the site is. Definitely not the best if you're looking for kindergarten playgrounds though. No pool, no playground per say. But it has to be one of the nicest natural spot around!

The river crossing the campground is awesome. There is trails there for al least a week of discoveries. The site is well maintained with clean facilities (drinkable water is kind of scarce though).

There's also an historic side to the river which used to host an hydro-electric facility. It's now decommissioned and they offer tours if you wanna learn about it (8$ or something like that). You can always just have a look by yourself anyway, which we did.

Highly recommend this site if you love nature. The sites are coreverd with trees. Tents seems to be the best around here but there is a couple spots for trailers. Ours fitted the space perfectly (28') but there is no hookups (literally nothing). You can fill your taink with clean water (drinkable) at the reception (standard hose available...
