A balanced review: The GOOD and the Bad
We had a 3 night stay at L.Sac March 11-13, 2018. The GOOD: setting on lake, lovely view, structure and architecture of building is impressive, taxidermy is varied and adds to ambiance of lodge in the Laurentians above the tree line; food is good for the most part--soups are all cream based and ok. Crème brulée was watery. Geo les spas very much appreciated after 3 hrs snowshoeing or sledding. Access to excellent trails. The BAD: beds were hard, the rooms advertised are not exactly what you will receive. The manager took us to the executive and presidential suites for a tour and the web photos do not reflect the reality. Not sure if they are using old photos (of the original lodge which burned down and they rebuilt--mostly no fireplaces in the new rooms; the huge beams are splitting as the new lodge was built quickly and the wood was not dried properly first); VERY frustrated/disappointed that the activities they advertise (tubing, skating, building a quinzee) are not available or not maintained enough to be safe. The Good the bad and the ugly Been to this Hotel many time over the years. A very nice place to stay if you snowmobile in la Belle Province. The Good... The Employees. The best of the best. The spa Geos. The most relaxing environment. World class.... when the steam sauna is operational and the fire place in the relaxing room is burning. Lost a few points this trip. The Bad... Something wrong with the menu. This place had a reputation for its fine food. To many plates returning not meeting customers expectations. « ordinaire » like my wife said. Her first time. Magnifique hôtel par son architecture en bois rond. Un paysage d'une grande beauté qui ceinture un immense lac où l'on peut se promener en kayak ou s'y baigner en toute quiétude. Service courtois et souriant.
Par contre, en raison de la pénurie, il y eu un service de traiteur sur deux soirs sur trois durant le séjour. Bien que prévenu de cet inconvénient avant l'arrivée, refus d'ajuster les prix du séjour en fonction de perte de la qualité des repas. En effet, nous avons été surpris de constater que le traiteur était de qualité de cafétéria.
Un hôtel de ce prestige se doit de choisir un traiteur de plus grande qualité pour faire oublier l'absence de table de menus. Si l'hôtel n'est pas en mesure d'offrir le repas habituel et d"ajuster le prix, il pourrait offrir comme compensation par exemple une chambre avec une meilleure vue, surtout quand l'hôtel est à moitié plein, sans exiger des frais supplémentaire par nuit pour avoir une meilleure vue ou pour avoir un mini frigo.
La chambre est de grandeur respectable avec un lit confortable mais avec des couvres draps usées mais propres.
Il y a aussi très joli spa avec deux bains remous, un sauna humide et bain sec. Une de deux salle de sauna était fermée et le sauna humide était trop frais. La salle de bain pour se changer était très étroite et défraichie. Par contre, il y avait un magnifique feu extérieur bien entretenu par une personne qui veillait a le garder actif toute la journée.
