TLDR: I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
The most soothing place to be on this island, the Morgan arboretum is the furthest thing from urban life in Montreal. It is hard to get lost in there and the sights are rather interesting as within a small area you have access to a number of different landscapes. This offers a variety of sights. I would take this over any of Mt. Royal, Bois-de-Liesse or Cap St.-Jacques any day, any time, rain or shine. I would go as far as to say it rivals Mt. Orford park given that it is right by my doorstep.
The park trails vary between narrow overgrown dirt trails to wide open beech-dense graveled paths which intertwine in between each other. There is a map available at the entrance. Bug spray is recommended on warm summer days if those bother you.
There is a small fee to be paid at the entrance for parking/access but it is affordable (4-7$ depending on your age group) but it is free if you attend McGill University's MacDonald College! Bringing a dog is most unfortunately hectic (dog membership $$$, dog evaluation session, etc.). Upwards of 100$ as far as I understand. If anything, you might feel more comfortable bringing your young'ns there since we rarely see dogs there.
I recommend this place...
Read moreI don't feel welcomed in my own city. I don't feel respected as a human I don't feel happy as a dog owner
Not sure my review will make a difference. But truth has to be told and shared.
People of this city deserve better. My dog deserves better.
Horrible customer experience. We wanted to enjoy the Arboretum and invited a friend to join. Upon entering, she was told because she had a dog, she had to pay $150 member fee to bring the dog in. Some parks allow dogs and some don't, but to pay $150 to bring your dog in is totally ridiculous. We asked if we could have a refund seeing our friend could not walk with us and they refused. They said that not being able to walk with a friend that has a dog was not a valid reason for a refund. So we never got to experience it, and I can assure you, we will never go back. In this day and age, you would expect a bit more...
Read moreThe arboretum is a good place to visit, a nice green space. It is a nice place to get away from people, development, and enjoy the outdoors. However, my enjoyment is greatly diminished by people who blatantly ignore the leash rule for dogs. Every time I visit, almost every person I see with a dog (probably 4/5) has it off leash, and many let them run ahead on the trails, through the woods, or run right up to you and sniff/lick you. The lack of control of the dogs is a major put off, even for me, who generally likes dogs. I don't think too many people care to have a dog galumph up to you, sniff you, and run off without having the owner so much as bat an eye. If people kept their dogs under control, it'd be a different story. It's not a dog...
