The trail is well marked and easy to follow, definitely tree rooty/rocky and can be muddy in a couple places. It follows Kingsmere Lake and you get some really nice views of it along the trail! It's nice to have a few campgrounds along the way to Northern, but to be honest would be nice to have some extra sitting areas in case the other campsites are already in use as it's nice to rest your legs a little bit. I would recommend doing the hike in 2 nights/3 days but it definitely can be done in one night/2 days it's just very long on the first or second day as the hike to the cabin is a further 3ish km past Northern campground. Enjoyed the hike though and next time I think we will canoe up!

This was a beautiful and well maintained trail. There are lots of roots so anyone looking to bike the trail, be prepared for a few bumps along the way. There are picnic tables and firepits with grills at each campsite. There is also lots of fire wood to use however, most if not all the wood is NOT chopped so you'll have to burn it as is or bring a hatchet/axe. Just a little heads up, you have to book the campsite in person, on the day you arrive. There is NO pre-booking for this trail and one person can't book more then one camp site. So booking for a larger group can be tricky but is still doable. Would highly recommend this trail for anyone looking for a fast

A 20 km walk through boreal forest to reach the cabin. Stunning destination! We rode bikes, easy trail but lots of roots made it a bumpy ride. Rigid fatty wasn't any worse than full squish 29er, we all had sore necks after. Expect the trip to take about 2 h without breaks. Some 20 downed trees to deal with, not a problem but some sharp branches. Boardwalks over waterways. Portion of route on sandy beaches. Simply beautiful and diverse, well worth it.

I attempted to hike this trail in one day (out and back) alone. I would never do that again. It took me 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete one way with a day pack with some stops. At that point your feet hurt and you need rest. I should have backcountry camped and then it would have been fine. Luckily, friendly folk boated me from Northend Campground to Chipawayn Portage and shaved off 2-3 hours on my return trip and I made it out before sunset. I felt crippled after the 30km hike (would have been 40km) and couldn't walk for two days after due to sore feet/calves and hips. It's also an incredibly isolating hike. I maybe saw 5 people in passing in 6 hours heading there one-way (besides at the back country sites) on Aug. long weekend, so I can see why you wouldn't do it alone. I did it alone though and had no issues with animals or anything. Overall the hike is BEAUTIFUL and the views/clear-water white sand beaches along the trail are gorgeous! The hike is treed, shaded and hilly pretty much the entire time. Each campsite has a beauty beach. I would highly recommend this hike but if your your going all the way to grey owl PLAN TO CAMP! Thank-you so much Mar'n and your crew for saving me and preventing me from hiking this trail alone in the dark! I'll never forget your kindness. I drastically underestimated how long...

A beautiful hike worth every minute! Prepare for a two-nighf trip if you want to enjoy the whole trail at a relaxed pace. We planned to backpack into the halfway site in Sandy Beach, but it was fully booked, so we settled on Chipewan sites 7km in. We started later in the day, hiked to our site, pitched the tent, and enjoyed the beach. The second day, we did a 26km loop into Grey Owls Cabin, stopping along the way back to build a fire and cook food and enjoy some tea before making our site. Enjoying a second night, we hiked out on day three, finishing before noon. Would 100% do the same route again! Sites are fairly close to the beach, getting any wind coming up from the water, so be prepared for an overnight chill. Site is rated a black diamond, however the trail itself is quite flat the entire route, making for an easy trek. I hope you enjoy as...
