What can I say about diefenbaker Park last year at the start of the summer would have been a 5-star rating and amazing Park so great that Saskatoon has so many great places for you to get lost in the wilderness and play disc golf. But now the best I can ever do is 3-star the Abomination that is Optimus Hill is so sad to see. Cutting out the little forests that surrounded the Halo as well entire ecosystems wiped out and for what I hear that you have to spend $20 for your kid to sled on when it was free before. When Optimus hit was proposed I assumed that nobody would ever allow the Majestic diefenbaker Park to be smeared by it. So sadly I was wrong. The disc golf at diefenbaker Park is now less interesting. I hope optimist Hill follows through on planting a tree for every tree they cut down but in my estimation that would mean they need to plant about 3000 to 7000 trees. Planting those trees won't bring back ecosystems and none of them will be very big for another...
Read moreEverything about this place is good to decent. No complain at all other than the parking hassle in different events. Parking is free here unless there is any event. Also in the events, parking is minimum 10 bucks, which supposed to be free, is actually lot because usually it is just for a short time. And another problem there is very few main entrances which are very narrow and gets really busy at the event time. If you are thinking to join an event, for example 4pm, you should reach at least one hour earlier to get a parking spot including heavy traffic delays.
Other than all the negatives, this park is huge and very well known for different arrangements in summer and Christmas. Also, just for a sight seeing or walk or spend time with your friends or family or date with a special one, this is quite nice place.
If you come to Saskatoon, this is one of the places you will like to...
Read moreThis review isn't of the park itself, but rather the walking path below it along the river. The view of the river from the catwalk under the Gordie Howe Bridge provides an interesting perspective of the river where you often see kayakers, paddleboarders, etcetera. The walk from the bridge to the Gabriel Dumont Park is also very pleasant. Unfortunately, much of the path isn't paved, so you have to pick appropriate footwear for the day, as it can be very muddy. BTW: This path would get a five (5) star rating if it were are all paved. You are also advised to keep an eye out for cyclists, many do not have bells to warn of their imminent presence. Nuisance bugs are generally low to moderate. If you are looking for either a leisurely walk or a brisk jog, this path is...
