We’ve been boating this area and the locks for 25 years. The outstanding part has always been the lock masters who are always smiling and do absolutely anything and everything to ensure safety and a good experience. Terribly disappointed this past weekend with the three younger lock people manning Lovesick - - mostly the blond in charge. They spent most of the time in the shack and talking over the PA rather than outside eyes-on interacting. At one point, a houseboat was drifting and stuggling to reach the wall and were yelling “help, we don’t know what we are doing, is anyone here?” They kept yelling. All three of the lock people were inside without eyes on. I ran across the bridge and assisted them in maneuvering until they were close enough to throw me a line. It wasn’t until then were two exited the office and made some incorrect advice to maneuver while I already had one line tied and a hold of the other. I yelled back to cut the engine. As I was leaving, the thankful new boaters ask me if I worked there then told me how grateful they were. No comment to me from the lock tenders. As a side note, the three left the lock 1/2 hour early that day. This is the polar opposite to our years of experience with the amazing lock masters we’ve always known. Someone should talk to these three and enforce a bare minimum that at least one should have continuous eyes on the boaters. Boaters safety was definitely...
Read moreA shallow lock between Lower Buckhorn and Lovesick Lake, it is a picturesque setting between two lakes and two islands. The washrooms, which are open to boaters after hours of operation are very clean and the grounds and gardens are very pretty. On the lower side of the lock is a beautiful granite rock face that sets a nice backing for a sense of protection from the elements. Though the site lacks power stations for boaters that would prefer to have it, the mooring and camping is only accessible to boaters making it a very peaceful place to stay. The damn adjoining the lock grounds adds to the sense of a time gone by and the fishing below it can be...
Read moreThe Lock had some amazing staff, the two young ladies that were working there were so friendly and professional. The bathrooms were clean and well taken care of. They have done a great job around the Lock with plants and flowers in the bed. I enjoyed sitting on the bench and reading a book while listening to the water flow down the Lock. We spent 2 nights at the Lock campsites and it was the friendly staff that...
