Not overly impressed. Unfortunately, I bought a 6 pack card... Will most likely try to sell it. It's fine if you live in Edmonton and with COVID I'm sure things have changed from what they usually are. I went inside to sit down and wait while my friend did a few more runs. Good thing it wasn't freezing! I ended up sitting in my car because I was informed that the tables inside were ONLY for people with cafeteria food... So basically I should've went and ordered a cheap item so I could sit inside for a short while. Money grab in my opinion. If my food (small snack) is such a COVID risk than I'm sure I must be too. Not very impressed with the staff in general. Staff at chair lift were inconsistent. My friend's face mask kept falling down because it was too big (her fault) and was informed that it needed to be on and then a second round that her nose had to be covered too. This is fine EXCEPT the younger guy informing us ignored the SAME issue on other skiers throughout the rest of the time I was there. I saw multiple people with their masks either down or not covering their noses. Seemed like he only singled out certain people which isn't ok. Either everyone gets grief for it or everyone is allowed to do it. I found it amusing that distancing wasn't a big deal (which I'm not too concerned about anyway) for the younger guy until another female staff came and informed everyone to keep distance in the line ups. Was quite funny when the younger guy went to repeat the information like 10 seconds later! He really jumbled it up and a group said 'we got the point'. He just didn't seem to be too enthusiastic about his job or concerned about following anything until other staff pointed it out. I also found having to show my tag every single time over and over rather annoying when it was the same guy. I think he should have recognized me by that point. I would have it clearly in the open and then he would still ask to see it. I mostly only had this issue with the one younger guy. The other staff were quick and not so...
Read moreSo my kid's school had a field trip to this area today (1-16-24). The inside staff seemed to be friendly and nice, especially in the afternoon, the morning was a bit confusing for volunteers who didn't really know where to go to help the kids with equipment and stuff like that. One older female instructor with a heavy accent (UK) I think didn't seem friendly at all therefore I'm not convinced that she should be teaching kids who are skiing for the first time. Speaking of not friendly and not caring much about your job, the staff at the bottom of the ski lifts weren't friendly or welcoming at all, just a warm body for a paycheck I guess. One thing that I found really bazar and troubling was the lack of staff on the hill, especially at the bottom of the training hills where the carpet is to go up. Someone has to be monitoring that so the kids don't get hurt by falling down, moving too much or not giving the person in front of them enough space. Some of the trainers seemed to "teach" the lessons much faster than others which lead several students to ask why they weren't at a particular section. Communication to school staff was minimal, especially about whether the kids could go on the lifts or not, we had to ask which is ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, the canteen thingy was way overpriced and not having wifi in 2024 inside the lodge is just an embarrassment. Also overpriced is the lift ticket cost; the hill are decent for someone just learning to ski like kids but for advanced skiers, they are barely challenging. The rental equipment seemed to be in good shape for the most part but again, too expensive for the size of the hill. They do have a microwave which was not on their uninformative and detail lacking website, no lockers, only cubby holes, lots of space to sit and eat lunch (bring your own) washrooms were clean enough and parking was really close to the...
Read moreJust back at Hops on the Hill again a year later. They once again closed the kitchen at 8pm. For the amount of traffic this event is now bringing in, it should be embarrassing to them to offer nothing but bags of chips, stale Costco muffins and random chocolate bars to eat. This event is scheduled until 11pm.
We’ve been going here for a few years now and are season pass holders. The location is great, minus the train tracks out front that can cause on average a ten minute wait to get in; however, this is out of Sunridge’s control.
We started noticing a change in the service at the end of last season. They advertise a discount on food and beverage with a season pass as an incentive. Last year, this discount was suddenly “not available anymore” mid-season, which was an unpleasant surprise. This year, when we tried to use it again, multiple times the 10% discount was only applied on one item with your order. When you’re charging prices such as $10.50 for a poutine and $3.50 for a brown lunch bag full of popcorn, this discount should be more substantial. Moreover, we have attended Hops on the Hill numerous times since last year and have looked forward to it every time this year. This is a great time to get out on the hill and then socialize with your (adult) friends afterwards while enjoying live music and local craft before. However, when we tried to order food the last time and it wasn’t even 8 o’clock yet, we were told “the grill is closed, because we need to get home on time”. Sorry, but I know how long it takes to shut a kitchen down, plus it’s pretty standard to still be “shutting the kitchen down” after operating hours. Also, if you’re hosting events like Hops on the Hill and serving alcohol, keeping the kitchen open longer is to...
