We ended up visiting for their winter Night of Lights; the kids had a blast, and it was very cool to get to see the park after dark - we even got to see a few of the animals! Plus, the beavers had babies since we were there last over the summer.
A huge thank you to the staff as well as the park for the opportunity and the fun! 😁

Updated May 31, 2025:
My boyfriend and I ended up at the park yesterday as it seemed like it may be the perfect weather to see some of the animals - we were not disappointed! The Wetlands were open, and I had honestly never been to that area of the park before yesterday, so it was super cool to see. Almost all of the animals were out grazing, napping in the sun patches on the ground or just otherwise hanging out. Also, Emu! They have two Emu who are too stinking cute now 🥹🥰

Read moreIt's a real pleasure to be reviewing the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, since I've been visiting since the early 90s, and it has a special place in my heart. It's an true Nova Scotia institution, so if you're a tourist, new- or long-time resident, it's absolutely worth going to. It's a wildlife park, distinct from a zoo in that it houses orphaned or injured, rehabilitating animals. The employees, therefore, are not simply "zoo keepers", but are dedicated, caring and excited to tell you all about their space. It's a genuine learning space. On my last visit, I asked a question aloud to a friend, and a passing employee stopped and energetically filled me in on the story behind some strange and exotic animals the park had acquired. It's a great experience for anyone, but particularly for families. My recommendation is to arrive for the opening time, then, when you're done exploring, get in your car and drive to the picnic area. It's got a big playground and picnic tables, and it's a great place to have lunch after your visit. There's a reason I go back basically once a year, and it isn't the criminally cheap entrance fee. It's kind of heartwarming, really - it's just a "feel good" kind of place. Would definitely recommend! Also, pro-tip: go on overcast days, because you'll see the...
Read moreOur visit to the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park was a wonderful experience and a perfect outing for a nature lover. The park offers a peaceful and well-maintained environment where we were able to see a great variety of Canadian wildlife up close. The animals, from majestic moose and elk to playful otters and bobcats, are in spacious, natural enclosures that make for excellent viewing. We enjoyed the leisurely stroll along the approximately 2 km of walking trails, which are well-suited for families with strollers or those with mobility concerns. The interpretive signs along the way were very informative, providing interesting facts about each species and their place in the ecosystem. Beyond the main wildlife trails, the park's partnership with Ducks Unlimited Canada is evident in the excellent Wetland Centre and its accompanying trails. This area provides a different kind of experience, focusing on local habitats and migratory birds. Overall, it's a fantastic and affordable destination for anyone looking to spend a few hours immersed in nature and learning about the wildlife of Nova Scotia and beyond. We highly recommend packing a picnic lunch to enjoy in the large picnic area, as it's a great spot to relax and refuel...
