StoneCropAcres Winery and Vineyard — Attraction in South Dundas

I’d won a prize (closest to the hole, a total fluke) at a local Morrisburg golf course earlier in the summer and my wife and I decided to take a little road trip with our little black lab to collect my winnings. This winery was on the way back and Anne had spotted it in her research of things to do in the area so we stopped by just as they were opening. We even called first to make sure our dog, a little black labrador, was welcome: indeed he was, as long as he was on a leash. The owners also have black labs!

It helped that it was a perfect day. We selected one of the cheese and cracker platters as well as samples of the wines. Everything was delicious. The owner stopped by and gave us a summary of his story: he’d been in the big-city financial biz and traded that life for another one in the countryside, and he and his wife have never looked back.

Everyone there has a smile and simply loves working there: no wonder. The amenities are perfect.

A fun-filled day with an organized bus tour that started with a play at the Gananoque Thousand Island Playhouse, followed by dinner at a winery in Morrisburg, and wrapped up there with a lively Ashley MacIsaac concert — truly a special day. StoneCrop is a brilliant gem tucked away just north of the village of Morrisburg. Their wines are exceptional! I am rather partial to the rosés - crisp, clean, and wonderfully dry and fruity.
