I’ve lost track of how many times I visited these ruins during the past 6 or 7 years that I learned about them. It is a beautiful and large church that burned down in the early 1970’s. The stone walls were saved, and over the years a dedicated group of volunteers has turned the building into a beautiful piece of history. The church is located in the quiet countryside. Just entering the ruins of St. Raphael's will leave you in awe of it's incredible external views and it's easy to picture the interrior of the church FILLED with parishioners at 1 point before the church burnt. This is a beautiful historic site! At the entrance you can see an old photograph of what it used to look like in its hay day!
The area where you walk down the stairs looks like it would have been the basement. The floor was likely wood and at the level of the main entrance gate which unfortunately means it was destroyed.
