I’ve walked these trails everyday nearly for 8 years, I moved to port franks and still drive the 40 minutes to walk these trails atleast 5 days a week, they were horrible in the winter BUT these last 2 years they have actually been maintaining the trails in the winter until now…?
After the storm last week I assumed the trails would’ve been bad so I didn’t come until today, a week after all the snow and am beyond upset with how terrible they are, the bridge out on the trail in the country where the conservation building is isn’t cleared at all not even an entrance to it, snow was up to my knees so I had to walk on the road to the other side of the trail just to find out the trail wasn’t maintained at all after the snow fall LAST WEEK. so I walked back across the bridge/road to the parking lot (inconveniencing a ton of traffic and feeling pretty unsafe) to try walking the trail the other way around if maybe more people had walked it to pack the snow down just to find a ton of trees fallen on the trails and not cleaned up.
80 min of driving and gas wasted because people aren’t doing their job and maintaining the trails - I expected this last week which is why I waited a full week to come to the trail, I had realistic expectations due to...

There's also a clever idea for kids - every few hundred metres or so, there is another page of a children's book posted. Walk the entire trail, and you get to read the whole book. Great concept!
As there are a lot of suburbs around the area, there are a fair number of other walkers, families and dogs on the trail.
Also, this is a rather unique area. According to Wikipedia, it is one of the few places in North America that has a population of white squirrels! I didn't know that when I was hiking, and must admit I did a double take when I saw a bunch of white squirrels...
Read moreCame here for the turtle release event and seemed like it was a popular event. The spot it perfect and if you want to spend a day, I suggest taking the kids to the splash pad, 5 mins away and having a picnic. The only downside to the event was that for the amount of people gathered to see the turtles being released and how tiny the baby turtles were, you couldn't see them actually being released. We ended up spending time up with the staff being educated on the turtles that were residence and held in captivity. The kids were able to hold those turtles and learn...
