Matos Winery & Distillery — Attraction in St Catherines

Very clean, professional establishment with knowledgeable staff. Only 3 stars for me as the very distinct products were not as good as other places, and this is just a personal preference on my taste. Others there really seemed to like it, so I can understand the other higher review ratings. I really tried to find something I liked enough to buy, but these products did not match my taste. I had samples ( and these samples were the largest by far in volume of any place we stopped on our winery/distillery tour) and these samples are stong. I wouldn't want to have 3 full samples and try to drive. Had to tell the lady to not pour so much after the 1st sample. Poor customer service. We stood around for 10 minutes, figuring out ourselves how the wine tastings worked, while the only staff chatted with her friends. It would have made a difference being told “hi I’ll be with you in a minute!”. The lady didn’t even look our way or say hi, continued to scroll on her phone while her friends chose their wine. The owner and staff were very friendly. Products are delicious! We love trying local products when traveling, so this was a real treat for us. The owner greeted us and told us that he was the farmer (which he is), and that the girl who does the taste tests is on lunch. He was only replacing.
