Sir Wilfred Grenfell was sent to help the fishermen of the region in 1892. He started with a small staff but soon had small hospitals all along the coast. Soon it went beyond medicine into education and other ways of improving the standard of living of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, bot settlers and natives. THIS is his house. Funny enough when me and my mom visited it there was no one else there. We had the guide all to ourselves. Which was weird because all the hotels and lodgings in the town were booked solid (we had to find rooms outside of St. Anthony). Lots of information about him and the local history.

This place is well-worth of your time, if anything to appreciate the kindness to humanity displayed by Dr. Grenfell and his cohorts in generations past. There is a lovely walking-hiking trail behind the house, too, for those looking for a more strenuous pursuit. Inside the home, seek out a display of an Inuit village carved out of ivory--that's a practice that's way past its prime but doesn't mean we can't continue to appreciate the artistry and workmanship that went into it. Lovely spot!

Wow, what a man. This is a walk through museum celebrating a man that truly made a difference. Dr Grenfell gave up the easy life in Europe to go to one of the harshest places on Earth to bring medicine to a place that had none. He raised money to fund hospital ships, hospitals and medical personnel. If you want to see how one man can make a difference in the world come here and celebrate a life well lived.

Ils pourraient...
