Cape Spear in Newfoundland offers a stunning experience, being the easternmost point in North America. There is a sign where you can take photos saying it was the most easterly point in Canada. Despite the heavy fog, it was worth it! The dramatic coastal views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean are breathtaking, especially at sunrise or sunset. The Cape Spear Lighthouse, Canada's oldest surviving lighthouse, provides insight into maritime history and offers picturesque photo opportunities. There is a little miniature landscape and historical timeline inside the coffee shop. Easily accessible by car from St. John's, with well-maintained trails and viewing platforms suitable for visitors of all ages. Need to be mobile though as there were steps and uneven terrain if you’re going off the steps areas. Great for hiking, photography, and wildlife spotting (whales and seabirds are common). Although we didn’t see any as it wasn’t in season yet, it was a beautiful and peaceful hike. The view with the fog was stunning. Visitor center provides information on local history and amenities, making it a comfortable visit for tourists. We went at the end of Spring (June) and it was cold and foggy but still beautiful. Cape Spear is a must-visit destination in Newfoundland, offering natural beauty, historical charm, and a memorable experience for travelers. Even for locals.

A beautiful place to stop for a moderate hike to some stunning views. Only 20 mins from downtown St. John's, Cape Spear has a fantastic walk along the cliff face to the oldest lighthouse in NL, and the eastern most point of north america. On the walk up Blackhead Trail you can stop at the artillary tunnels, take a million pictures, the souvenir shop, a new lighthouse, and the Cape Spear cafe. The hike can be steep at times, but there's plenty of places to stop and catch your breath. I would say however that it's a pity there's so many areas with chainlink fencing separating you from the view. This is the first I've seen of this level of safeguarding in NL. The constant signage everywhere really mars the landscape. The cafe has reasonably priced drinks and food. If you want to go into the light house, it will cost you $8.50 per person. We spent over 2 hours at Cape Spear seeing all there is to offer, so give yourself lots of time to take it all in. Also, wear layers, as even when it's chilly, you'll be sweating from the exersion in no time and peeling down to your basics.

Cape Spear Lighthouse, the eastern most point in North America. This is where the sun first rises in North America. i would say the best time to visit here would be sunrise & sunset. There is a 9$ entry fee that can be purchased in the entrance from the Parks Canada Staff. The entry fee is for being on the site, taking the guided tour, and accessing the buildings. They have a building with all the antique stuff used in the old times, which is a pretty cool feature. They also have a cafe as well, the Cape Spear Cafe if you want to grab a drink or have some food. It is a natural historic site, so if anyone is interested in that sort of thing, I would definitely recommend it. Did not get to see whales, but it's a popular site for spotting whales and other marine life.

With an old lighthouse, a new lighthouse, an old military site, and the eastern most point of Canada, there is plenty to see here! The trails go around some gorgeous, if windy, coastal areas and range from short paved sections to full day hikes on gravel trails. They go down to the coastal cliffs and then up to the lighthouse, and then through an old military gun and magazine site as well! The old lighthouse is setup as a museum to look as it would when the lighthouse was active which is cool to see (requires extra admission unless you have a Discovery pass). Along with all the outdoor trails and historic sites there is a gift shop and cafe and finish off your visit, so it is a truly comprehensive site to visit!

Cape Spear is a wonderful destination rich in history and offering breathtaking views. The site features fascinating tunnels and an impressive lighthouse, both of which provide a glimpse into the area's past. The staff were incredibly friendly and informative, enhancing the overall experience with their knowledge and enthusiasm. Cape Spear is not only the easternmost point of North America but also a place where visitors can learn about the strategic military importance during World War II and the enduring legacy of the lighthouse that has guided ships safely for generations. The panoramic ocean views and rugged coastal landscape make it a must-visit for anyone exploring the region.

A must visit place when you are in St. John's. The drive up to Cape Spear is fabulous. And once you get there, you are at a historic site that has witnessed major world events. Again just like most places in St. John's, the views are breathtaking. On top of that you are at the eastern most point if Canada. That is a milestone in itself. The bunkers built during World War II are preserved and give you a send of how Canada helped the allies from here. And to top this the stunning views of the Atlantic would have you mesmerized. The blue and the view of Signal Hill are awesome. And every now and then a ship goes by reminding you of the active St. John's port
