Maybe we visited on the wrong weekend, but our experience at Longwoods Conservation Area wasn’t as positive as others have described. I hope this helps others, as I also rely on reviews before choosing a new hiking spot.
The area seemed quite nice in a more natural, less manicured way, which we appreciated. We paid a $5 entrance fee (per car), which seemed reasonable; however, there were no facilities available, and the washrooms were locked, so we were left wondering what the fee was for.
We hiked all the available trails, and as experienced hikers, we found the lack of signage frustrating. In some cases, there were no trail markers at all, and in others, the markers ended in the middle of a trail, leaving it to your best guess which direction to take.
We visited during the first weekend of August, and unfortunately, the mosquito situation was intense. It made it hard to enjoy the trails, especially since they weren't clearly marked.
The website also states that the area is wheelchair accessible, but based on what we saw, that’s misleading. The trails we encountered were definitely not suitable for mobility devices.
Many reviews mentioned the village area being nice, but we either missed it or it was closed when we visited.
Overall, Longwoods Conservation Area isn’t a place we’ll be...
Read moreThe conservation area, museum and indigenous long house village itself is incredible. HOWEVER, it took more than an hour of driving and walking to find the entrance to the long house village. There are ZERO trail markers anywhere here. While struggling to find our way we called the conservation area in an attempt to get directions which only led us WAY off path. It was a very frustrating experience to find our way but once we got there we had a wonderful time. I would also like to point out that even though the website says they offer tours and mentions also that the only fee is your $5 parking fee. Despite this they only offers tours to groups of 15 or more and they charge $120 for this. Needless to say, we were dissapointed. We Also weren't able to prepare for our trip properly due to the fact that the websites links to maps and other resources...

Journeyed into the Resource Centre and spoke to a few very educated employees. Was great to pick their brains about things we saw and they educated us on some of the things they had displayed in show cases.
Large glass windows peer into the woods while you can watch the birds feast on the feeders. Helpful signs helped us identify some of our feathered friends 🐦
