A beautiful man made lake with rustic scenery. A beautiful piece of land that was once owned by a family who dug and constructed the lake. They eventually donated that part of their land to the city of Surrey. So happy that Surrey kept it a conservation park. Its a serene place for me to quickly visit and walk the 10 min easy, flat gravel path circle that starts from the parking lot and brings you through 4 beautiful scenic settings. And brings and your walk to an end of the trai at the opposite side of the parking lot. Godwin is not an overly manicured Park (unlike bear creek park)its Very natural. There are only a few memorial benches throughout the park . And, if those are occupied ;there are not really any places to lay a towel . They ask you not to hike though the vegetation for obvious reasons. Now for the negative. heres why i gave it 3 stars. No pets are allowed. Not even leashed, so now that i own a puppy, i rarely come to Godwin any more. Also, alot of teens hanging in the parking lot smoking weed snd doing drug drops., Dont really make you feel at ease when pulling in. once I was there and a car pulled in, and sonebody hopped out with a coffee can snd placed it in the tall grass and then hopped back in his car and peeled out. Before i could clear my confusion of that was going on, about 3 min later an SUV raced in ..a guy jumped out and grabbed the can and then jumped back in his vehicle and peeled out leaving a cloud of dust A little ghetto for a family destination. Also, sometimes the parking lot fills up as there is only 12 parking spots. So always lame when its filled with teens that are just there to smoke weed and eyeball me for pulling in .. not much parking on the road either.. but the beauty FAR outweighs the negative. A must see. Beautiful in rain or shine...i will never tire of...
Read more-BEWARE THE STEALTHY TWILIGHT ATTACKER- Enjoying the park after work for a quick strut around the perimeter, but as dusk fell, a stealthy encounter took me by surprise. While jogging on the lake bridge, something struck my head, snatching my touque in a mysterious act. Initially puzzled, I covered my head with my jacket hood, thinking it might be a low branch that snagged me. To my amazement, no branches were present upon inspection. Perplexed, I used my phone's flashlight to perform a more thorough inspection of the ground and brush flanking the bridge, and suddenly, another impact on my head left me shouting in disbelief. Now thoroughly bewildered and a little freaked out, I hurried back to the parking lot. About 50 yards from the trail head, I spotted the culprit: a barn owl, perched high on a tree branch, with my touque as its trophy. We exchanged a few words, and it seemed the owl had a successful night acquiring a...
Read moreGodwin Preserve is a gem of find in Surrey. It's a fine and quiet, contemplative space where one can enjoy peace and quiet. Emphasis on one because, for its size, trails are short and sweet and no dogs are allowed. There is a large pond with wooden shaded walk bridges at its inlet and outlet, and there is a rest area with 2 benches overlooking the small placid water. No space for a picnic, but ideal enough for a sit-down and a sandwich while looking at dragonflies flitting around. Please bring your garbage with you as this is a wildlife preserve. I saw koi and swordtails in the pond likely dumped by unscrupulous people thinking to do nature a favor. Please don't do that. Overall, it's my new favorite place for personal reflection. Parking space for about 20 cars. There is a disabled spot, but...
