The Hills used to be called Peace Portal Golf. It's changed ownership. It's located near the Canada , US border. It has a huge parking lot and it also has a par 3 course beside it if you don't want to play the big course. They have a clubhouse that serves food all day plus an Artigiano coffee shop and live entertainment on the weekends. There's a table set up at the 10th hole for drinks, hot dogs and chips. The new owners have made changes. The first tee box was moved up about 50 yards, which was a good move. It makes the first hole played faster. After that, they changed the next eight holes from the original direction of the course and made them the back eight. Thus, the old back eight have become holes 2 - 9. The Hills is a big mix of long and short fairways. Wide and narrow. There is no high grass to hit out of, but there are lots of trees. There are some water features and is quite hilly, as the name suggests. It looks like it plays long, but 2 good hits from the tee and you're on or near the greens. It is walkable, but if you don't like going up and down hills, they have club carts for rent. I've been coming to this course for years and really like it. The course is in good condition, and the greens are good too.

Decided to try the hills for valentine's dinner, ambiance was good, music was not too loud, live music started at 6:30pm. Food was good, portion a little on the smaller side but not overly salty and was very balanced. Had the chowder with seafood added, cauliflower appy, duck main, steak with fries and chocolate pie dessert either salted caramel Gelato. Appy is a bit pricey. The other is fine. Owner or manager dressed in pink which is cute and nice. Each table received a rose 🌹 today. Very considerate. We were told that website is not updated. We recently held the first annual BCWLE golf tournament at the Hills at Portal’s par 3 course and we were so pleased with the event. We chose this course for our event because the owners, management and staff were so helpful and supportive and guided us every step of the way. This being our first tournament, we had many challenges including a short timeline to plan and lack of experience organizing this type of event. The goal of the event was to encourage inexperienced golfers to get out and try the game and provide a fun and relaxed environment for our members to socialize and network. They closed the Par 3 course to the public for our tee times and provided a large number of club rentals for our participants. They even recommended a pro who we hired to work with everyone prior to teeing off and also set up a KP contest. During the event, the manager helped us set up, provided tables for our registration and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything. The owners were also on site and treated us so well. We were provided tees, ball markers and divot repair tools for those who needed them knowing that most of our participants were new to golf and likely wouldn’t have those things.

For the social event afterwards, they allowed us to set up our raffle prize table in the lobby area and sectioned off an area of the restaurant with privacy screens so we could mingle and run our raffle and door prize contests without having to worry about disturbing anyone else. This was all done without us even asking which really impressed our organizing committee; they clearly put a lot of thought into the details of hosting an event. The servers were so attentive and there was a great selection of food available. The kitchen staff met with our organizers at the beginning of the day so they could be prepared which meant that the food came out quite quickly despite a larger group.

There was extremely positive feedback from the participants, our board of directors and the planning committee. What they enjoyed the most was that the course was easy enough for beginners with some really gorgeous scenery along the way.

We will definitely be...

One of my favourite courses. Very reasonably priced. I've played here for a couple of years and the course is well maintained and well run. This tree lined course is challenging with a lot of hills; where your feet are rarely flat with the ball. The treeline has been cleaned up nicely over the past two years allowing you to punch out any errant shots from under the trees. The greens have some slope, so quite often there is tough pin positions, but they are spacious. There is not a lot of water on the course. If you are walking, you will get a good workout! Power carts are available and are recomended gor people with health or mobility issues. The clubhouse restaurant and bar is very good and a great recent addition to the course. Its a lovely course. In my opinion, the areas that need improvement are.

  1. Many of the tee boxes are not leveled properly, so you are not teeing off with your feet level with the ball. They should make this easy fix that would make a big difference.
  2. They removed the food station at the 10th hole and encourage players to run to the first hole to get food. Im sure that this saved some labour cost, but this is very frustrating , slows play and with all the walking, this lack of food accessability gets golfers hangry. I think they could solve this and should swap hole 1 with 10 on their course design. This would make their food plan work and their food sales would increase.
  3. Cold water barrels is a nice treat on a course. This was removed during Covid. It would be a treat to have cold water barrels on a couple of...
