River House Vineyard & Winery — Attraction in Tay Valley

Beautiful Winery and restaurant, just needs salt. The setting of River House Vineyard and Winery is gorgeous, you drive into a treelined laneway that opens up into a beautiful wide-open vineyard and farm setting at right at the top of the hill is an enormous barn with a fantastic outdoor patio in front and through the front window of the barn you can see the lovely stained glass at the back of their indoor dining room and event space. To the left of that is large covered outdoor patio with lots of seating that overlooks a serene river.

We started our father's day dinner with a wine tasting flight of four wines, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and a Pinot Noir and we were pleasantly surprised by the Pinot Noir, which was light bodied but had a very nice earthiness to it.

We arrived earlier than our reservation and asked to be seated 30 minutes early, and the team was very helpful and thanks to another cancellation they had no issue seating us earlier. We could tell that because they are still new, they were not over-seating the restaurant to make sure they could properly serve everyone on time. The appetizers were lovely and everything was perfectly cooked, we started with the Montreal Smoked Croquettes that were hot and tasty, we also had the potato bravas, fingerling potatoes served in the nicest tomato sauce and aioli. However, I did think we were ordering a different dish since the potatoes were not crispy, as described in the menu, just cooked. But the dish was delicious and I was practically licking my plate, so I was very excited for the main dishes to come...

We were a party of three, so we decided to order all three mains on the menu that evening, which stated that they were served with the "starch of the day" and vegetables. We were presented with very hearty dishes of Pickerel, Chicken and Short Rib, but surprised to see a large serving of the same fingerlings we just ate in the appetizer on all three dishes, we had a lot of potatoes that evening!

Everything was perfectly cooked, however, I was disappointed in the flavouring, in that there wasn't enough. The Short Rib was described as a "Braised in Red wine and served with a red wine sauce" however they was not an ounce on sauce on my plate. It was braised, but I did not taste like red wine. I find it a let down when you order a nice/expensive meal and it comes without any sauce/jus. The meat and the crispy "tobacco onions" on top were not salted at all. The pickerel was served with a tomato salsa but again, not salted, and my father was picking bones out of the fish. My mother's chicken was ok, but again not very aromatic for a "white wine roasted chicken" and the skin was soggy and again the meat needed salt. The vegetables were actually better salted than all three meats, but due to amount of food and all the potatoes, we did not want to waste the food, so we asked for take away containers. We did mention tot he server that the food was under seasoned, and she said they were very open to feedback right now. I can tell that the chef was well-versed, but we will wait a little while to return to see if we hear more feedback about the food first.

The setting was fantastic, the service was great, and it would be perfect for a wedding, but I do hope the chef can learn from the opening...

We recently got married at the River house Winery and Vineyard and everything was perfect! Not only did every single person who came to our wedding tell us that it was the most beautiful wedding venue that they had ever been to, but they also complimented the exceptional service and food. We had guests who didn't even like steak tell us that they have now been converted by their Filet Minion! The way they have tied into the winery such a beautiful high end classy vibe which caters to partiers and foodies alike is unbelievable! We cannot get enough of the view, gorgeous building with amazing stained glass windows meeting the river and vineyard is a storybook vision come to life! The staff went above and beyond any of our expectations by looking after our every need, making sure every space was perfect for us and our guests and made our wedding dream come true! Everything was seamless, beautiful and well managed the entire day! The amount of thought put into the entire wedding process is noticeable at every point of the wedding. The staff and owners really enfasize the little details that mean so much on such a busy day. They are extremely helpful, attentive and friendly.

The bridal suite and grooms room were an absolute godsend for getting ready for our wedding, with the perfect amount of space, air conditioning, and amenities to make getting ready enjoyable and not stressful! Waking up the next morning and being able to enjoy the venue over our coffees and reflect on all of our beautiful memories was just the cherry on top! Working with riverhouse to set up the wedding was incredible. They were always there for us, at any point, and were exceptionally communicative and easy to reach! We were able to plan our entire wedding so easily with them! The tastings to pick out our food and our table wines was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Our vendors loved working with River house as they catered to all of their needs and had such amazing photo locations! Having a golf cart for our photo team and us made the photoshoots quick and easy, and with so many locations to choose from, they all turned out absolutely stunning! The team was very helpful during our set up process, and worked directly with our vendors to make our wedding day perfect! We are so grateful for this amazing experience thanks to River House Venue. My husband and I had our wedding at River House Vineyard and Winery this past weekend. From the moment we drove over the bridge last year, we knew we had found our perfect wedding venue. The venue itself is breathtaking. With its picturesque vineyard views and elegant ambiance, it truly speaks for itself and requires minimal additional decor.
