Hiking trails throughout the Bluff Wilderness area are top notch with amazing views from natural landscape. The four loops allow you to pick your distance, and give you many different landscapes as your move through the park. Going from rock-hopping to lakeside walks and back up for a hilltop view are all part of the journey. The trails are almost always obvious with blazes and rocks pointing you in the right direction. There is always a full park map at each intersection so you can't make a wrong turn.
The opening rail trail is a generously wide crush stone path for walkers, runners and cyclists to move about. The entrance to the four loops is about half a kilometer from the parking lot and starts out more challenging than the average trail terrain. If you're planning to go farther than the Pot Lake Loop (first loop), I would suggest proper hiking shoes and apparel, a couple litres of water and a solid lunch. You'll be tired by the end with a big smile on your face.

Read moreHow could I miss such a lovely place which is located in the heart of Halifax Municipality,. It's definitely a must visit place for people interested in large scenic hikes. The trail is attached on the way to the BLT trail. It's on St. Margaret's Bay Road. There is a parking lot on the way to Bluff Wilderness trail. I can't think of a trail with a broadwalk in Halifax. Also, there is a small beach ⛱️ and a picnic bench at the start of the trail. If you wish to see the scenic views of the river, you have to walk the other loop of trail, which is not clearly marked and can get confusing. Watch for some snakes. But yes, it's an absolutely fantastic and great place to...
Read moreThis is a beautiful trail system offering a more difficult trail experience than many trails around here. We greatly enjoyed the varied terrain and views. We only did the Pot Lake loop due to a time constraint, but look forward to bringing our dog back to try the next loop as well!
The only issue we experienced was a lack of clear signage around the portage between Cranberry and Pot Lakes. The well trod trails used by portagers makes following the main trail difficult without good signage. You can see on my track recording where we got a bit turned around. Either way, the detour provided great up close views of Cranberry Lake!
Definitely hike it if you're up for...
