also a great place for hikes - there are many walk only trails that are very close to the water (sadly, the signs indicating that trails are only for walking are often ignored by cyclists). very scenic - great views of the city - you will see wildlife with the CN Tower right behind. the beaches are not suitable for swimming - too much debris - especially rusty metal rods - it might be hard to find a flat spot for a blanket - mostly rocks, bricks and stones of variable sizes. great place for a bike ride! some of the surfaces are quite rough/bumpy/dirt. bring your own snacks/water - apart from one water bottle filling station at the very entry to the park there are no other fresh water sources. Public washrooms are available at the Tommy Thompson Park pavilion, and there are some porta potties along the spit. Some hiking paths are probably more interesting to explore for pedestrians than the main road - and it is a really long walk if you intend to reach the tip of the Spit walking all the way. My strategy is to park my bicycle somewhere in the middle along the asphalt road and then do some hiking. There is a non functioning Lighthouse at the end, but it is sad, neglected, barely visible and overgrown with plants. Some great views along the way - especially from the floating bridge and the beach at the end of Leslie Spit. in the afternoon/evenings and on the weekends there are not supposed to be any cars, but you will encounter an odd, slowly moving vehicle on it's way to a yacht club located half way...

Absolutely Beautiful Park👌 This is my favorite park. In the summertime, I go there almost every weekend to bike and relax. It’s a hidden gem with stunning natural beauty and a peaceful atmosphere. Many different birds visit year-round, making it a great spot for birdwatching.

If you are a nature photographer and want to capture birds, early morning is the best time—it’s quiet, the lighting is perfect, and the birds are very active. During windy days, when waves hit the shore and fish come closer, thousands of sea birds gather—it’s an amazing sight and a great opportunity for wildlife photography.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy—fishing, walking, biking (solo, with family, or in groups). It’s very safe and perfect for all ages. The views are incredible, especially during sunset. At the far end of the park, there’s a charming lighthouse, surrounded by water and lush trees.

If you’re looking to see the Toronto skyline, this is one of the best places—clear views in the morning and beautiful sunsets over the city in the evening. You can also watch boats and planes, and it’s an amazing spot during the air show.

Parking has been improved recently, and there are city bikes available for rent. You can park your car and enjoy a bike ride around the park. Portable washrooms are also available throughout, which is very convenient in case of emergencies.

I believe this is a man-made island, and it truly offers something for everyone. Highly...

Tommy Thompson Park, nestled along Toronto's waterfront, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and urban accessibility. As an urban wilderness, it provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The park's sprawling landscape boasts diverse habitats, including wetlands, meadows, and forests, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

One of the park's highlights is its extensive network of trails, perfect for hiking, cycling, or leisurely strolls. The views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline are breathtaking, especially during sunset. Birdwatchers will delight in the park's status as an Important Bird Area, with over 300 species recorded, including rare migratory birds.

However, the park's industrial past is evident in its landscape, with remnants of concrete structures and industrial debris scattered throughout. While this may detract from the natural ambiance for some, it adds a unique charm and serves as a reminder of the area's history.

Overall, Tommy Thompson Park offers a refreshing escape into nature within the heart of the city. Whether you're seeking outdoor adventure, birdwatching opportunities, or simply a peaceful retreat, this urban wilderness has something for everyone. Just be sure to bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray, especially during the...
