It is such a beautiful lake! I had a chance to work on a research cruise (NAMAO) for two weeks and enjoyed every moment of it! I feel so lucky to explore almost all of this lake. I wrote a poem to show my respect and love for Lake Winnipeg:
Lake Winnipeg
I gaze into the horizon And to the woolen and snowy clouds
O silvery-tinted lake How serene you are? How do you dance into existence, Flowing, Swirling, How do you swallow your angry waves, How do you engulf this world within yourself, And yet remain so calm?
O lake of grand desires And small wishes, How do you watch the birds from afar when you cannot walk?
How do you welcome the wind, That has traveled thousands of kilometers to reach here, And still remain tranquil?
I have seen you in turmoil and joy, I have seen you drawn towards the skies with cresting waves, And today, how are you so tranquil?
O lonely lake, Where will you find yourself? And where will you go to sleep? In your dreams, do you see the reflection of the moon? Or the silver-red fish that haven't reached home?
In your dreams, is there a nameless ship, That opens your waves, Touches your heart, And its people gaze upon you, And dream dreamy dreams?
They dream of you, O silvery-tinted lake, Dreams of you with thousands of waves, With thousands of colors, With thousands of fish swirling around you.
