Peck lake trail parking area is located well off the highway. The road is a little rough so take it easy.

The trail is a 2.3 km loop that ends at the same spot. It winds around the shore of Peck lake. There’s plenty of open spots along the shore for photographers to snap reflection shots on the dark, usually still water. The wildlife spotting is often great on this trail. We saw a wolf a couple of years back and people report seeing moose and the occasional bear.

The trail has several boardwalk sections near the end so it’s more level and less muddy than it used to be. There’s also some wooden steps to make it less challenging to climb back up to the start point. The trail doesn’t really have any steep climbs like many of the other...

A Great Lake with an easy path to navigate. Has many lookouts around the lake with beautiful fall colours all along the way. We went on an overcast day but still had brilliant colours to view. We have never seen much in the way of animals during our trips to Algonquin aside from common squirrels and birds but for the first time ever we saw a roughed grouse on the trail. Or a “chicken of the forest!”, as we called it as it appeared to walk like a chicken lol. A good trail...

Boring trail compared to all others for fall colours. Also many narrow parts (one lane) which is annoying when people have to cross you because they're going the wrong way either because they started at the wrong end or got bored and turned back - worse when they're not wearing masks. Especially annoyed because the info guy at west gate circled it on the map as having fall views but it was mostly pine trees in a forest.

Skip this trail, especially until...

Beautiful trail surrounding Peck Lake. Some short climbs and a few tricky parts but overall wasn’t a problem even for out of shape me.
