I was invited by Teresa to do a guided tour of the Allan Brooks Nature Centre here in Vernon. I had a great time learning about the trails, the history, the grasslands, and the facility. We saw a few hawks and then went inside to see the black widow spider, the snake, and the turtles.
It is a very scenic area, and isn't as far from downtown as you would think.
The people working here are very passionate about the facility. They have international tourists, cadets, occasional musicians, and birthday parties.
It is the only place on the planet where you can see Okanagan Lake, Kal Lake, and Swan Lake simultaneously in one spot.

Read moreI visited early in the morning before it started getting hot. Staff very friendly and answered any questions I had. This time of year the grounds had been absolutely blasted by the heat and sun, so not a whole lot if growing things to be seen. And likely the animal life was taking shelter. Would be awesome to see in the spring. The views are beautiful and there is a breeze up on the site which helps make it a little less oppressive from the heat. Read moreThough we visited in the early days of September there was still much to do and learn, in a way it was even better as we had learned a lot more then we probably would have during a busy time. We were helped by Carson, who was so knowledgeable and patient. He toured with us in the room with the mural and answered the many questions we had. And being an animal lover it was great to learn new ways to help conserve and save habitats, learn what habitats were being destroyed, and species that I didn’t even know were local as I’ve never seen them.
