Our stay started out good. Alex the park attendent was very nice and told us about the campground. Our family of 7 stayed 5 days. On the first day the kids went swimming. I wish Alex would have told us about swimmer's itch because the kids suffered the rest of the week. We feel the sign should have been at the top of long trail down to the beach. We saw that others had gone swimming not knowing about it either. We gave them some of our cream to try and help. On the 4th morning Alex came into our sight and gruffly asked if we were still planning on leaving the next day as he had people parked waiting overnight for our spot. We were having a pleasant morning and it would have been nice if he said good morning with a smile. We assured him we still planned on leaving at our scheduled time and he again said, okay, because I have others waiting. I found this a little off-putting , but carried on with our day. Alex continued to remind us what is garbage and what is not, though we assured him we knew the difference. On our last morning Alex asked one of the kids if we were leaving ... We had already started packing. In reality, he should have asked an adult, we knew we had to leave at 11 am. At 11am Alex was in the 2nd campsite cleaning which is fine, but he dusted us out with his blower while we were trying to hook up the camper so we could go. My spouse has asthma issues and asked Alex to just wait 5 minutes so we could go because of all the dust and he said, "I breathe dust all day" with a smile. My spouse asked him what time is it he looked at his watch and said 11 a.m., so she told him she has asthma and again please wait until we leave. My spouse is now suffering from the dust and had to increace her medication because Alex couldn't be considerate enough not to blow dust in our faces. All in all, the lack of posted signs about swimmers itch and Alex being more concerned about the next people coming wrecked our experience. The beautiful family time we had and the beautiful campsite saved our stay. 0 stars...

Nice Campground and close to lake which is nice. However the Host is the reason for the negative review. We were checking in late to our multi-night reservation, and received a message that our site would be given away if we did not call back by 11am. We called at 11:02am and the Host was incredibly rude on the phone and said that he gave away our reservation to people that had "Slept in their Car all night, waiting for a spot to open". I could barely keep him on the phone long enough to have him say "Well just show up and you can have one of the first come first serve spots." I thought, fair enough, if those are the rules, and someone has been sleeping all night waiting for a spot then sure.. let them have it.

However, when we showed up, no one was in the site we booked, which was a DOUBLE site, up on the ridge and overlooking the lake - one of the best spots. There was only a camping chair in the site and a reserved tag on the post. We unpacked to our first come site, and noticed that there were 5 other first come sites available. So our thought was, why would someone wait in their car instead of set up at one of these available sites?

I clued in that the Host made up the story of someone waiting for a spot, kept our money we paid for the double site, and gave our nice site to his friends, (who finally showed up after 8pm!). Totally unacceptable and shady behavior, not to mention the guy was a complete jerk in person. The photos I am attaching are of the Host's truck being parked with his friends all night, at the site that we paid for. Hope you enjoyed...

Beautiful spot, clean washrooms, free showers, nice beaches. Got there early one day, July 11th, to get one of the available unreserved sites. Very happy with the site we had, booked and paid for it for two night stay and had the appropriate card displayed at the site indicating we would be there for two nights, leaving July 13th. We have a bed set up in our van so don't use a tent. After our first night, we packed up our belongings into our van and went mountain biking and touring for the day. We got back to the campsite at dinner time with plans to have a shower, make dinner and relax at our campsite. When we arrived back at the park, our campsite had been given to someone else!!!!!! - EVEN THOUGH WE HAD PAID FOR TWO NIGHTS AND THERE WAS A CARD DISPLAYED AT THE CAMPSITE INDICATING THIS. As we had been so neat and tidy at our campsite and we sleep in our van, they assumed we had "abandoned" the site and so felt free to double book the site???!!! We had been assured when we checked in that the site was ours for two nights. So...HOT, EXHAUSTED, HUNGRY and late in the day, we spoke with the manager who seemed to blame us (for being so neat and tidy). We had thought of leaving our cooler at the site that day but with the few coyotes roaming the campground we didn't want to do that. So the manager moved us to the overflow area, for the same price, which was a gravel parking lot with obviously freshly broken glass from a window smashed in that day. No apology, no refund and it...

We love Ellison provincial park, and have been returning for 5 years now to camp. The campground has nice sites, fairly private, There is a great kids playground, hiking trails (evening trail to watch the sunset is a must), flush toilets and free hot showers. The camp host is lovely, and runs a small camp store as well as always has great suggestions for things to do nearby. My only campground complaint would be to get more toilets, often seems to be a line up for them. The provincial park itself is lovely. There are 3 beaches, one of them being dog friendly. It's a good walk down a fairly steep hill to get to the beach, but the trails are well maintained (wagon or stroller friendly). There are toilets and an outdoor shower near the main 2 beaches. There are great spots to jump into lake from the cliffs or just fun to climb around, can even do rock climbing here. There is a dive park off the one beach as well if you are into that. BC parks runs a learn to fish program for kids once a week here as well. Feels like a little tropical oasis when the sun is shining.
