We recently visited Timber Creek to play the Shipwreck mini-golf course. We waited about 30 minutes in line, which was expected as it was a Friday. When we started, there was already a group of two people about two holes ahead of us. We were a group of four, so naturally, our pace would be a bit slower. Before we even putted on the first hole, a family of five was already right behind us, using the practice holes. As we moved through the course, this family sped through and repeatedly encroached on our space, standing on our hole while we were still playing or allowing their youngest child to run onto our hole mid-game. Despite this, we were trying to enjoy ourselves. That changed when a staff member approached us, telling us we were holding up the line and needed to move faster. It caught us completely off guard, as we were playing at a normal pace and following all the rules. We couldnât believe she was addressing us and not the group behind us. I explained that we were playing properly, and that the family behind us was all hitting their balls at the same time, which obviously made them finish faster. The staff member ignored what I said and âsuggestedâ we should all shoot at the same time too, to speed things up. Why should we be forced to abandon the correct way to play just because others are rushing through? To make matters worse, the child from the family behind us was literally standing on one of the rocks on our hole as she spoke to us and yet the staff member walked right past them, said âhi,â and didnât say a word about their behavior or about respecting other playersâ space. She confronted us about halfway through the course, and the interaction completely ruined the vibe. We felt pressured to rush through the remaining holes and didnât enjoy the rest of the game at all. In total, it took us 65 minutes to complete the course. According to their own website, the average play time is between 60â75 minutes, so we were well within the expected timeframe. We were simply playing the game properly, as anyone would expect after paying to be there. What was supposed to be a fun day ended up being stressful and disappointing, not because we were doing anything wrong, but because we were rushed through just so they could push more people onto the course and make more money. Itâs unfortunate that our experience was spoiled due to the behavior of others and poor handling...
Read moreIt pains me to write this because I have been coming here since I was a teenager and have brought my children here in the past but will no longer. When we first started playing I noticed my eldest was playing very erratically. It turns out the big signs saying âNO SLOW PLAYâ gave her massive anxiety and they were fearful someone would yell at them for being too slow. I assured them that the signs meant donât stop and chat or take photos and as long as they were playing no one would complain. I showed them being calm and taking a breath and lining the shot upwould in the end take less time. I was wrong. About half way through the game a staff member told us we were being too slow and we needed to be faster. She said we all had to play t the same time. I told her the children need help, especially the little one and I couldnât play and help two children at the same time. I suggested we leave for a break and come back to resume our game when it was less busy. She said no, itâs never less busy and we were not allowed to leave. I asked for a suggestion and she said we all have to play at the same time. So I tried it. The children were in tears because they were yelled at for being slow and decided it meant they were no good. They couldnât independently get the ball in the hole. They no longer felt successful. So instead I split my family into two smaller groups and rushed everyone to the end, my husband and I not getting to play the game we paid for. At the end I apologized and told them I was sorry I thought this would be fun. It would be nice if there was a family time slot where kids could play and learn. If they donât want kids on a Friday night or during busy times, make it adult only Open a bar and make it a date spot with no kids. But stop telling kids off for...
