We loved hiking here in the winter. The paths are well worn even after a snowfall a few days prior. We hiked on both sides of the canyon for easily 2-3 hours and had spectacular views, I hardly took pictures, but trust me it's breathtaking. We parked on the side of the highway coming from downtown, as the road to the site is closed in the Winter. There is a snowcleaned parking lot on the other side Schwatka on Chadburn lakeroad that we discovered. *We saw a small group on a tour with snowshoes, no need for either.

Great place for a summer hike, but an even better place for snowshoeing in winter. The place felt magical, with snow covered trees lining the Yukon river, the ground was the most pristine shade of white! We snowshoed from the Chadburn lake road side. The trail was fairly decent, with some spots (closer to the riverbank), which required a bit of care. But definitely avoid this in winter if you have bad knees or other health issues. Awesome place to experience the Yukon river!

We saw this in The Milepost and had to stop and see it. We are towing a trailer so we parked up by the pit toilets since the area below where cars park would be a tight, if not impossible, turn around. It was a short walk down to the parking area. The walk to the bridge requires taking stairs. The bridge takes you over the Yukon River. There are trails all around and on the other side of the bridge. It is wonderful to see and we are glad we stopped.
