So me and my Wife were in Sal, Cape Verde, Africa on holiday from our home in Manchester, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

We wanted to go to Shark bay after seeing great reviews and watching numerous videos on YouTube so we rented a car in Santa Maria where we were staying and headed to Shark bay there are many excursions that go to Shark bay but we opted to rent a car and drive(If you are going on an excursion they are usually 4x4s(SUV) but if you rent a car I'd recommend hiring a 4x4(SUV) as the route to Shark bay is off road).

As we drove off road we were approached by a guide who said the best and safest way to see the sharks is with a guide and I think it was €10(1000 CVE) each (CASH ONLY, NO CARD).

Our guide was ERI a local lad who was absolutely fantastic, He is born and bred nearby and knew what to do to attract the sharks 🦈 and even knew certain sharks behaviours and personalities etc.

The experience was absolutely fantastic the sharks are Lemon sharks and are quite young but I actually went back the next morning to meet Eri again as I wanted to snorkel with the bigger Lemon sharks who are about 2metres in Length.

I definitely recommend going to Shark bay Excursions are a great choice but we opted to rent a car and drive to Shark bay.

If you are going to Shark 🦈 bay I definitely recommend water shoes or Crocs are even better as you walk out upto your knees it is quite rocky and there are sea urchins etc.

Also if you are going to Shark bay there are huts selling souvenirs, drinks and food etc and again CASH ONLY, NO CARD as it is literally on the coast on a dirt track well away from anything.

If you want the best videos of the sharks 🦈 I definitely recommend buying a waterproof phone case which you put your phone in and lock it off so it is fully waterproof and then put your phone under the water to catch some great shots of the sharks as you can see from my pictures and videos.

To visit this beautiful turistic site, along with a full trip around the island, we decided to rent a 4X4 to face the roads of Sal. From Santa Maria it has been about 45 mins drive. We weren’t really sure where we were going, we know the direction and that is close to the salt mines (beautiful place). Once we reached a very small village on the coast with some rusty boats, we’ve been approach by a young tall local named “cris” whom gave us directions and asked if he could have come with us. We trusted him, got him on board and he helped us to reach shark bay (i admit, would have been difficult to find without him or a proper guide). The coast is 20/30 meters wide rocks about 20cms underwater, there were many tourists and bunch of locals ready to sell you watershoes for about 10/15€. Once reached the shark zone, it was beautiful. There were about 20 small sharks swimming between our legs. All the tourist operators were explaining that’s where the sharks go eat and mate. Meanwhile “cris” was without any enthusiasm listening to music on hi cellphone. When we left we stopped about 200 meters on the way back to spot few adult’s sharks fins. We drove back “cris” to the cery spot where we called us, and asked about 25€ for the 45/50 minutes run. We imagined he wanted a retribution but we didn’t expect as much. Only after we have been warned that he (as others) could have easily steal our belongings in the meanwhile... We dealed for 15€ (cris was really not happy...) and went by ourselves to the salt mines. Beautiful trip but beware of street sellers and avoid anyone...

Amazing TUI lemon Sharks experience. We were collected in a minibus from the Rui Palace, and after collecting a few other people from nearby hotels we were on our way. The journey there was about 35/40mins (no air con on the minibus but the windows were open so a good breeze through the bus). The last few minutes of the journey are on a dirt track, so be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride. Our guide chatted throughout the journey so the time flew by. Arriving at the bay (past rather a lot of washed up plastic rubbish) we came to a few wooden shacks where locals were selling souvenirs. We paid 3euro per person to hire croc type shoes... definitely hire shoes or take your own as you cannot walk across the rocky seabed in flipflops or bare feet as the rocks are sharp. Our guide walked us out and very quickly several small lemon sharks were swimming around us in the crystal clear water. It was amazing, our guide was well informed and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the experience. Our group was about 10 people in total and for the duration of our shark experience we saw many groups being rushed to leave. We were in the water for about 40mins. We didn't think this was an experience for younger kids after seeing some people trying to carry toddlers across the uneven rocky seabed. The area is not developed so don't expect toilets or cafes. Excellent value...

Sal was a strategic island and considered as a perfect place for spaceport as it’s very close to the equator (the 16th parallel north). But this island became a tourist mecca because of its white sand beaches, a dry tropical climate, over 350 days of sunshine a year, transparent waters and “No stress” motto of the Cabo Verdeans. There are exceptional conditions for water sports, such as surfing, diving, kitesurfing, windsurfing and fishing. The Salinas de Pedra Lume, the lava pool of Buracona, the pier of Santa Maria, the Botanical Garden Viveiro and Shark Bay are mandatory stops. #capeverde #capeverdeislands #salcapeverde #capeverde🇨🇻 #salisland #salislandcaboverde #atlanticocean🌊 #visitcapeverde #inspirational #inspireyourself #visitafrica #africatravel #africatrip #africatravels #caboverde🇨🇻 #kappverde #buracona #olhoazul #olhoazulsalcaboverde #blueeyecapeverde #sharkbay #botanicgarden #botanicgardens #santamariapier #botanicalgarden
