Char Chinar, also sometimes rendered Char Chinari, Ropa Lank, or Rupa Lank, is an island in Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir India. Dal Lake includes 3 islands, 2 of which are marked with beautiful Chinar trees. The island located on the Bod Dal is known as Rupa Lank (Silver Island), it is marked with the presence of majestic Chinar trees at the four corners, thus known as Char-Chinari (Four Chinars). Murad Baksh, brother of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, constructed the Rupa Lank. The second Chinar Island, known as Sona Lanka (Gold Island), is located on the Lokut Dal, and over looks the holy shrine of Hazratbal. Chinar trees characteristically grow in Eastern Himalayas. They have been an important part of Kashmiri tradition, in that, a Chinar tree is found in almost every village in Kashmir. These trees have survived for ages, because Chinar is basically a long-living tree. It spreads wide across a region of cool climate with sufficient water. The tree has several properties – leaves and bark are used as medicine, the wood, known as lace wood has been used for delicate furniture and the twigs and roots are used for making dyes. The place witnesses two main seasons: summer and winter. Because of the location, Srinagar experiences limited rainfall and it does not have a proper monsoon season. The best season to visit the place is from April to October as it is perfect time for sightseeing and other activities. opening and closing time sunrise to sunset,All days of the week-6:00 AM – 6:00 PM Visit Duration:1 to 2 hours Near By Attraction Jama Masjid Mosque Kashmir Travels Pari Mahal Roza Bal Shrine River Songs Tours and Travels Transportation Distance between Jammu Tawi Railway Station and Char Chinar Dal Lake is 302 kms or 187.7 miles or 163.1 nautical miles Application Availability Which Save Some Money Zomato ,Swiggy(best service for delicious food) Uber,Ola(best service available for cab upto 24/7 hours)

Char Chinar, nestled within the picturesque Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, is truly a mesmerizing sight to behold. This cluster of four majestic Chinar trees emerging from the waters adds an ethereal touch to the already stunning landscape. The tranquility of the surroundings, combined with the soothing ripples of the lake, creates a serene ambiance that's perfect for a relaxing boat ride. The Chinar trees themselves hold historical significance, as they've stood witness to the changing times and have become an integral part of the region's cultural identity. Visiting Char Chinar allows you to experience the unique blend of nature's beauty and cultural heritage. The way the sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dancing shadows on the water's surface, is a sight that truly enchants the soul. Whether you're an avid photographer seeking the perfect shot or simply a nature enthusiast craving a moment of solitude, Char Chinar offers an unparalleled experience. However, it's important to note that the beauty of this spot also attracts tourists, so the tranquility can sometimes be disrupted by the bustling activity of visitors and boat vendors. To fully appreciate the charm of Char Chinar, it's advisable to plan your visit during quieter hours. In conclusion, Char Chinar in Dal Lake is a must-visit destination that encapsulates the essence of Kashmir's natural beauty and cultural heritage. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to reconnect with nature and soak in the serenity that surrounds you.

Amazing and one of the biggest picturesque lake. It's the main attraction of Srinagar, so you can't miss it. When you are taking the boat ride, ensure to bargain price. You can easily spend one day on the lake alone. Once you enter the lake, you will see many other vendors on boats selling everything from chai to barbecue, saffron to souvenir, all on boats. Those boats will approach your boat, you can do shopping while sailing. Again bargain the price, don't pay as much as they as. You can talk down to price to half of what they are asking. In the lake you also have Nehru Garden, there you can also do motorboat water skiing. You will also see local people travelling in smaller boats for their daily work, like women going to markets, dad's dropping off kids to school on small boats. Also the photographers with costumes will help you change into Kashmir ethnic wear and take your pics. On the lake you will also find the market to be winter wear, from shawls to all kinds of coats. Price is a bit high, hence I would recommend not to buy more here. You can buy on land the more authentic Kashmiri shawls. There's also Mina bazar where you can buy all sorts of dry fruits, again price is higher than the stores on land. Limit Dal lake for peaceful boating enjoying the scenic beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains, do the shopping on land stores.

Char Chinar, located on the serene waters of Dal Lake in Srinagar, is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers. Named after the four majestic Chinar trees that stand on the island, the place offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and calm waters. It’s accessible by a shikara ride, which in itself is a peaceful and scenic experience. The island is small, but its charm lies in its simplicity and natural beauty. The tall, ancient Chinar trees provide shade and a sense of history, making it a perfect spot to relax, click pictures, or enjoy a quiet moment. While the island doesn’t have many modern amenities, it’s a great place to experience the raw, untouched side of Kashmir. Some visitors note that maintenance could be improved, but the natural charm more than makes up for it. It’s especially beautiful during autumn when the Chinar leaves turn golden and red. Vendors on shikaras often float by with snacks and souvenirs, adding to the unique experience. Overall, Char Chinar is a peaceful retreat in the heart of Dal Lake, ideal for a short stop while exploring Srinagar's beauty. You must mention this place in you bucket list

I’ll narrate u the entire ride. U can take a 6 point ride or an 8 point ride. Point basically refers to the number of places they make u visit during the Shikara ride. A Shikara can accommodate 3-4 people comfortably. The farthest point is Char Chinar. There were 4 Chinar trees on this island from where it got its name(presently only 3 Chinar trees exist, one was cut down after the Srinagar floods). Right time to visit this place is May to Sept, try to bargain for the Shikara’s cost, beautiful place, remains too crowded, must try the Maggi served here. Enroute u will be visited by several vendors who will quote u a cost 2-3 times the actual cost, straight away say half of the cost and don’t deviate, they will sell😋, ladies can negotiate even more🙈. They will take u to a static boat that offers water sports and other activities, the bargaining works here too. They will charge ₹50 per pic(they take pic from their dslr only), pay 100-200 and get all the pics transferred to ur mobile. This is all I could offer u all from my visit’s experience, hope this might help you all...

During my visit to Dal Lake, I decided to take a Shikara ride to Char Chinar, and I must say, the experience was a bit underwhelming. The ride itself cost around 1500rs, which seemed a bit steep considering the limited time spent on the island. The Shikara I rode was a motorized one, so the traditional charm of gliding through the waters was somewhat lost. Once we reached Char Chinar, I found that the island was quite small and lacked the wow factor I was expecting. The view was pleasant, but not as extraordinary as I had hoped. Unfortunately, the allotted time for exploration was only about 15-20 minutes, which felt rushed and left me wanting more. If you're considering visiting Char Chinar, I would suggest keeping your expectations in check. It's important to note that this sightpoint cannot be easily combined with other sightseeing spots. While the overall experience was decent, I would recommend exploring other attractions in Dal Lake that offer a more comprehensive and fulfilling experience.
