This area has gained a LOT of popularity with local tourists in the last few years since COVID lockdown ended, and a lot of reviews and guides I read online were out of date. From what the locals were saying, it's especially popular in winter for the snow scenery, especially with tourists from southern China.
I visited late December 2024 and found out too late that the only way to book tickets for park entry and shuttle bus was through the Changbaishan WeChat page. Tickets for the 7th day ahead are released at 6pm local time (approx release of 5000, ~300 per time slot), and a small number of tickets for the next 6 days are released at 6:30pm (around 400 per day). The ticket drop at 6pm sold out within 20 minutes, and the 6:30 drop was all gone within 2-3 minutes. I tried booking for the next day and was diligently refreshing the page at 6:30. As soon as the tickets appeared I chose an early timeslot but by the time I got to the checkout page the timeslot I selected had disappeared already. It seems like visiting Changbaishan is the Taylor Swift concert of China! The WeChat page is all in Chinese so be prepared if you are looking to visit, and make sure you book 1 week in advance at 6pm if you want to maximise your chances of getting a ticket.
